With Chandler signing with the Knicks, Billups is expected to be amnestied, leaving the Knicks without a starting pg.

Its time to deal Nash. Nash to NY for Shumpert and a 1st.

This would be a deal well worth looking at.

Which first, I thought Houston has the Knicks next first...

The reason Billups is being amnestied is to make room for Chandler. The Knicks can't absorb Nash's contract while giving just Shumpert in return. With the new CBA, it's a little easier to make that kind of trade, but you still have to make salaries match to a certain extent.

Take back cap fodder, as long as it is off the books by summer.

Shumpert, Fields and fodder. The Suns would be on their way before 2012.

Again, if the Suns wanted to trade Nash, re-signing Hill for 6.5M wouldn't have made any sense. Since the Knicks also wanted him but couldn't offer more than the MLE, they could've simply signed-and-traded him to the Knicks for a second-rounder and then traded Nash for Shumpert, a pick and fodder. Nash and Hill would reunite with Amar'e and D'Antoni and still have Chandler and Melo on the starting lineup. But with Hill re-signing here, now it doesn't make any sense.

Also, I'm not even sure the Knicks have any available picks to trade.

Still, its something that should be visited. Sarver has greatly overestimated Suns fans attachment to Nash.

The Knicks are reportedly waiting for Baron Davis to be amnestied. But Davis is no answer to their pg problems.

FWIW, I always thought that Chandler and Amare would be a good combo of offense/defense. Nash would make that team a contender.

Chandler was the player that the Suns absolutely had to get on our team. Too bad they failed to do that despite many chances to get Chandler cheap... In fact I remember they nixed one Chandler trade because of his health..

Chandler or Camby was what this team needed.

Yep...both would have been perfect compliments for Amare. Hell, even KT was a passable alternative. We all know how that turned out though.

Our FO was so focused on turning Amare into Tim Duncan, that they didn't appreciate him for what he is: the most offensively talented big man in the NBA. Stick him next to a Chandler/Camby and he doesn't have to guard the opposing team's best big men, and even if he blows an assignment, he has someone to clean up the mess.

that's the biggest bitch of it all... even while trying to turn Amare into Duncan, they always failed to take into account that Duncan ALWAYS played with a solid 7 footer next to him so he wouldn't have to always be beaten down.

Blair, McDyess, Bonner etc duncan never really played alongside a 7 footer other than Robinson.

The difference is that Duncan himself really always was a center.

I hate to whine about something like this but don't forget the zebra advantage either. Duncan, from the moment he walked onto the court, was given Jordan-like treatment from the referees. Amare, dating back to the Heinson tirade involving Paul Pierce could never catch a break from them. After awhile, Stat was a big part of the reason he couldn't catch a break (that stupid "and one" yell) but still, the difference in ref support between the two was striking.

I've said this before but I'll mention it again. I remember the first time we played the Spurs with Duncan early in his first season. We fronted David Robinson and we literally beat the heck out of him from front and behind and almost never got a call against us. However, every time we got within two feet of Duncan we were whistled for a foul. I don't ever buy into the conspiracy theories but it really seemed like the refs had been given a mandate, protect this kid. And other than Joey, the refs did just that.

yeah... I shoudl have said Duncan always played with another C next to him when they were winning titles. he difference is the Spurs never won titles once they started playing Blair, McDyess and Bonner next to him.

they did win titles with Mohammed and Oberto, both Cs, playing next to him.

Oberto is 6'10, Mohammed started 5 games.

It really doesn't matter if they won the championships with those guys. They were basically the same good team with Blair etc starting next to Duncan. You really think the difference between the Spurs beating or losing to us or someone else was Oberto compared to Blair for example? ...

The difference between Amare and Duncan is that Duncan is like 7' 280 and has always played like a center defensively while Amare is 6'10 230lbs and can not anchor a defense.

right... except those teams with starting Cs won titles and went to the Conference Championship round while after them, the Spurs haven't gotten out of the second round ONCE.

But yeah, the Spurs lack of size has nothing to do with them routinely getting kicked out of the playoffs these days.

Give me a break Slin. Having waves of big bodies was ALWAYS part of the Spurs MO and once those guys went by the wayside, their defense started to suffer.

Further, I can't think of any player that drew more contact without getting foul calls than Amare. (I guess the one notable exception would be Shaq, but Shaq's a whole nother story) Amare would just get pounded, especially in the playoffs and would rarely get calls.

I believe the point about Duncan always had a nominal C next to him is that TD could minimize the pounding at C over the the season and POs. When it counts, TD always defended whatever came to him. In contrast, Suns intentionally put the physically less robust Amare under this extra pounding over years. This makes a huge difference.

But when? I love Nash and Hill and want both to retire as Suns. But the idea of re-signing both to something like one-year deals next offseason is not exactly what I have in mind for the 2012 free agent bonanza. Not that I have high hopes for much more than that. :bang:
