Just watched Bryan Baldinger breakdown on this udfa
4 years at Auburn
Certainly he has been well coached and has bet instict to play the position then Simmons and Collins combined
Let's see if he can make the 53

Nice breakdown.. just not sure if I see a spot for him with Simmons, Collins, Vigil, Villejo, and Turner (special teams ace) already there. Who goes if Wootten stays?

I've been watching SEC football my whole life & when a player from this conference looks good that didn't get drafted, well..............it doesn't surprise me at all. The talent these guys play against week to week prepares them for the NFL better than any other conference. After watching Wooten for the last 4 years what does surprise me is the fact he didn't get drafted. I still think Collins is gonna figure it out, but Wooten looks more instinctive right now imo because of playing better competition. If you're a LB in the SEC, you'd better know how to fight off blocks or you'll end up on the ground. I hope Wooten makes the cut?

It seems to me he's going to move around a lot depending on the situation. Similar to what he did in college.

Fair point but Wootten still has to bump someone out on the 53. Deionte Thompson? One of the rookie pass rushers? Not sure who you are getting rid of to get him on the 53.

There is enough depth that you can bump a Vallejo or a Walker if you think Wooten can contribute on ST.

None of the backend depth at ILB are special players or players with starting potential, so I have no problem cutting one of them for a young guy who is flashing.

We know what Walker can do. Would rather see what Wooten can do instead.

I complimented him in the running thread. He showed excellent play recognition and burst. That said most likely he would head to the practice squad unless he has a huge game this week.

Thats my thoughts. I don't like my team keeping around more than a few guys that are just special teamers. I'm talking about guys who have little potential to play on offense and defense.

Wooten looks much more impressive as an actual LB.

I really hope this means what we think it means. He’s looked strong both in coverage and against the run. I don’t think it’s inconceivable that Wooten could get meaningful snaps this year with the combination of Simmons playing a different role and Vance not being sold on Zaven. At any rate, I’m really tired of seeing Vallejo and Walker in those backup spots.

Hey, if Wooten can be a solid pro at the position and Collins cannot, we still accomplished the objective removed from wasting an early round pick at the position. Sort of like drafting a QB, if you get lucky on a Tom Brady in the later rounds, it does not matter if your early pick at QB flopped... though I would imagine finding a diamond in the rough at ILB is a higher probability than a QB lol

I know a tape of a single game isnt enough to judge a player and foresee a good nfl career
But the guy in those plays showed everything u want to see in a middle linebacker
anticipation, play recognition, football IQ, burst, great tackling technique , doesn't give up when he is blocked, he showed power to sheed the block, physical
In a year from Collins i didn't see anything like this, i won't be surprised if he is ahead of Collins in the depth chart in September

Let's not forget Zaven Collins "flashed" early in pre-season as well. I don't know what happened (mental, scheme, personal?) but he has seemed to be less aggressive and getting worse vs getting better.

Fast forward to :20

Lets hope he won't be signed by other teams
Imo its a bad decision, its not we have the Tampa bay duo in the middle but vigil and tallejo, probably the worst combo in the nfl on paper and behind them a player who didn't show anything

Who's going to sign a UDA 220lb ILB to their 53 that has 4.82 speed because he had a few nice snaps in the 2nd half of game 2 of preseason?

It's not 100% out of the question but it's highly unlikely.

I have to agree with this. Wooten played nice against guys who are no longer in the NFL as of today. He is worth a practice squad spot at best.
