They don't have the "players" that have the skills. They have the players they have because they "chose" these players Chap......like Channing Frye.

If the SUNS wanted to play defense they'd build a team with players that possess defensive skills.....don't fool yourself.

Don't fool myself? You said they DELIBERATELY do not play defense. I disagree. Their defense has been pretty good so far this season. Yes, against inferior teams, but the Suns are a team that historically didn't play good defense against any team, good or bad.

Which translates to "they aren't concerned about playing defense" otherwise they'd try to get better at it. No?
If they are traditionally a bad defensive team(which they are)then they are purposefully not playing any defense.

deliberately vs not concerned about doing
You can argue semantics all you want.

So you're saying you don't think they're playing decent defense so far this season? You're speaking in generalities when we're discussing specifics. I wonder if you've seen the team play yet this season. (that's not meant to be demeaning, I just think the 3 reg season games have been totally different defensively than all the preseason ones)

For a team that historically has never had highly skilled defensive players, they are playing well.

And not being skilled at defense doesn't automatically mean they don't TRY to play it.

-No i don't think they're playing decent defense this season.
-You're the one who brought up generalities concerning the defensive shortcomings of the SUNS over the years.
-I've seen bits & pieces of pre-season,the opener and tonights game.
-Semantics

You can go on believing we're a decent defensive team bro,and go on believing that this team wants to be good defensively, in contrast to scoring 150 ppg.

I don't mean to sound belittling either, it just sounds like you may be speaking from homerism rather than reality.
The difference between "unable to defend" and "unwilling to defend" argument was a legitamite one for a little while......but after several years and no change, it becomes the trend, and the preference.

You saw the opener and 20 minutes of tonight's game. That should end the conversation there. The preseason doesn't count.

And I didn't bring up generalities, you did in your original post.

I'm not your bro, and I never said we are generally a "decent" defensive team. I said we have played decent defense so far in the past 3 games--2 of which you haven't even watched!!

So you've decided that the team is unwilling to defend? That is beyond ridiculous.

Sorry bro,
you argue semantics, you're a blind homer and you're a stubborn,paranoid,defensive(LOL@ the irony there) old fart which makes communicating with you impossible.

Very mature of you "bro".

Since you obviously can't refute my points you resort to name-calling. Way to go!

Oh, and did you watch the 4th quarter tonight? Yeah, they "deliberately" don't play defense.

My point was the SUNS don't play any defense, they don't have the players nor the philosophy to do so....therefore they deliberately try to win games by simply outscoring people......hence they deliberately don't play any defense.
You can argue semantics all you want(sheesh....a broken record).
If you want to bearhug a microcosm of team defense in one qtr of tonights game then go right ahead, that proves nothing in terms of this teams personality this season or the many years prior.

I can keep this up all night bro,I could care less whether or not i get banned for calling you out. You argue SEMANTICS.

You want to keep arguing over the SUNS defense? They don't play any, they know it,I know it,everybody knows it.....even you, but you'd rather just argue over wording rather than the true argument because thats who you are.

So the Suns out-rebounded the Heat by 1, out-blocked them 11 to 2, and held them to 40% shooting and yet the Suns don't play any defense.... that just doesn't add up.

Great defense tonight when we needed it. Not a big fan of the zone but a wins a win.
I like the zone for spurts to throw off the balance of the other team... if you play it for too long then teams start finding the holes. Tonight it really seemed to disrupt the Heat & get them to take some bad shots so it was a good move by Gentry and was a big contributor to us pulling ahead in the 4th.

Mojo, I would rather not ban anyone. You are welcome to disagree or even put Chaplin on ignore, but the personal attacks aren't acceptable.

The problem with your position is that you're confusing who you mean by "the Suns." It can fairly be said that the Suns as a franchise deliberately don't play much (or "any") defense -- that their strategy is just to outscore people. But the Suns players have, at least, tried to play defense this season; their mediocre defense is, like Chaplin said, due to poor ability rather than poor effort. So you need to decide whether you're blaming the franchise or the players, and then be more specific with your language.

its called "oppotunistic defense." But I still dont understand how a team can DELIBERATELY not play defense... If they did, our players might as well sit on the bench waiting for the opponent to score when they have the ball, and quickly run back onto the court when we have the ball...

Don't give Amare any ideas. :)

Although I must admit he seems to making more of an effort to be good on defense than in the past.

Yeah I agree. He has quite a few good rebounding games this season.. Plus he is still scoring 17+ points per game at the moment.

Wasn't this thread about Channing Frye? He's starting to clank. I hope he gets his touch back.
