The San Diego Chargers have signed veteran wide receiver Kevin Dyson to a one-year deal.
The 6-1, 208-pound Dyson spent the 2003 season with the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers. He had signed with the Panthers on March 21, however he suffered a torn Achilles tendon during mini-camp and spent the majority of the season on the "Reserve-Physically Unable to Perform" list. He played in one game during the regular season, catching two passes for 15 yards. He was active for all four of Carolina's postseason games, including Super Bowl XXXVIII, but didn't catch any passes.
"Kevin Dyson is an intriguing player for us who we feel still has a lot to contribute," said Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith. "He could give us some depth at wide receiver. Kevin has played in two Super Bowls and his experience should really be valuable to some of our young players."
Dyson, 28, spent his first five NFL seasons (1998-02) with the Tennessee Titans. He caught 176 passes for 2,310 yards and scored 18 touchdowns with the Titans. Dyson had his most productive season in 2001 when he racked up career-highs with 825 yards and seven touchdowns, while equaling his career best with 54 catches. Even more impressive was the fact that he put up those numbers following a 2000 season which was cut short after two games due to a serious left knee injury.
Maybe they won't go after Fitz and do sign Manning after all.
