Ron Artest, LOL. I love Artest, but he seems an odd choice for this.

Yeah, you can't make toast without thinking of Mike James...

Code:
Back then you didn't want me, now I'm hot you' all on me

Anyway, it's good to see Amare volunteering. I'll TIVO this just to see how he looks.

It's a little odd that there aren't more players from the Texas teams. I think I've got a pretty good idea why there are no Mavericks (Mark Cuban would have a conniption), but why aren't there any Spurs on this list?

I get the feeling this was a kind of "friends" network. There are so many odd inclusions and exclusions we could go on for hours trying to figure the pattern. In any case, it should be a fun game.

African-American NBA stars to hold hurricane relief game

Wed Sep 7, 6:27 PM ET

HOUSTON, United States (AFP) - LeBron James and Kevin Garnett will lead a group of African-American all-stars in an exhibition basketball game to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"The game is a show of our support and solidarity for those affected by this natural disaster," organizer and former pro player Kenny Smith said.

"As professional athletes we've been very privileged and this is one way we can help take care of our own."

Kobe Bryant, Amare Stoudemire and Dwyane Wade will also take part in the National Basketball Association Hurricane Relief Game here on Sunday.

Participating players will donate funds and supplies valued at more than one million dollars for victims.

New Orleans is more than two-thirds African-American and over 30 percent of the population lived below the poverty level. Hundreds of thousands of people had no cars and could not evacuate when it came time to leave.

Well Tony Parker is playing ball in Europe. Manu is with his new wife in South America. Timmy is just to shy in the off season to join in on something like this. So really, all that's left are SA players noone wants to see anyway. ;)

This all highlights one of the basic problems when it comes to racism: it isn't just "whites" that are racist. In some cases it is minorities that keep racism in perpetuity.

To me, it is sad that this disaster has degenerated into a "race" issue. I personally don't believe in evolution, so to me, there is only one race, and that is the human race. Even most evolutionists have accepted the "mitochondrial eve" DNA evidence and agreed that all human beings descend from a common ancestor. Do know that the traditional physical traits that we distinguish "race" by only constitute less than 2% of our genetic structure?

Too me it is sad that we cannot get beyond the skin tone issue and move on to more important things.

I wonder how many of the people they're actually trying to help will even get to see the game...since it's on cable. :D

Interesting enough, I learned racism from minorities.

Where to begin. You reject evolution but quote science to support your own pet story of anti-scientific origins. Can't pick and choose. Science is unequivocal about both evolution and race--the former is a proven fact and the latter is social and cultural construction rather than a scientific reality.

As to the "why can't we get beyond skin tone," I don't know what to say. Of course it would be nice, but after the events of last week, I respectfully submit that it's time we paid a little attention. It may be uncomfortable, but that's too bad...
