Actor Charlie Sheen released from jail in Colorado

Associated Press
ASPEN, Colo. –

A police spokeswoman in Aspen, Colo., says Charlie Sheen has posted bond and been released from jail hours after he was arrested in an alleged domestic violence case.

Stephanie Dasaro says Sheen posted $8,500 bond Friday after speaking with a county judge and was advised on the conditions of his release.

Officers arrested the 44-year-old actor Friday morning after responding to a 911 call from a house in the ski resort town. Sheen was taken into custody for investigation of second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Dasaro declined to name the accuser, citing a department policy prohibiting the identification of potential victims in domestic violence cases.

Sheen's publicist Stan Rosenfield released a statement saying, "It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion."

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Brooke Mueller was legally drunk when she called 911 on Charlie Sheen.

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller
Sources say authorities gave both Charlie and Brooke blood alcohol tests. Brooke registered a .13 while Charlie registered a .04.

We're also told Brooke recanted her story to a female officer just before the bail hearing, telling the cop she was drunk when she made the 911 call. Nevertheless, law enforcement sources say police will still pursue the case -- at least for now.

We've also learned Sheen has hired well-known Colorado attorney Richard Cummins to represent him.

Sheen was arrested Christmas morning after Brooke called 911 claiming he assaulted her. Charlie was booked for two felonies and one misdemeanor relating to domestic violence.

As we first reported, Sheen told law enforcement Brooke was the aggressor and he was just trying to defend himself.

The plot thickens.

Oh geez ... you mean she lied?? what a shocker :sarcasm:

I love that show Two and a Half Men - I thought it was a mindless sitcom, but the writing is actually pretty good - and witty!

I enjoy Two and a Half Men - funny show.

And as usual, the police believe the woman without question.

Sounds like Brooke is the one that should have been arrested.

Depending on the laws of the community, the police don't always have a choice.

Where is Shane to weigh in on this?

But does anyone here have difficulty imagining Sheen roughing some girl up, sober or otherwise? This is a guy who "accidentally" shot Kelly Preston, OD'd on cocaine, and generally revels in his bad boy image. I'd take him to jail in that scenario and let the legal system work it out.

That's why you're not a cop. :)

I'd just like to point out that woman who are abused recant their stories all the time, it's one of the most well known aspects of abuse victims. They think if they change their story their abuser will "owe them" and will straighten up and fly right.

I dated a woman years ago who had been in abusive marriage and spent time at a battered womens shelter. She said every single woman there, including the counselors, had the same story, called the police said he beat me, then changed my story and surprise he hit me again later.

No idea if Sheen did or not but the fact that the woman recanted her story later is meaningless to me. It's all part of the abuse cycle.

I agree 100% and the women who are lying make it even harder for the women who recant out of fear since there there can be doubt at time.

TMZ.com:

One of the two felonies for which Charlie Sheen was arrested is felony menacing -- a threat involving a deadly weapon. Our law enforcement sources say Mueller told cops Charlie was in possession of a knife and threatened her with it.

I think he is a genius. He went on TV and appeared to be a whack job and then tested clean with the piss test.

He's a PR person's nightmare, but, hell, I ain't his PR person, so IT'S ON!!!
