Weis, like every other recent Irish coach, has been unable to recruit good defensive line players to play in our 4-3 system. Notre Dame lost out on four more dline prospects this past week. So Weis gave up.
He fired his defensive coordinator and a couple of other defensive coaches and hired the defensive backs coach from the NY Jets to put in a 3-4 system and utilize more of the LBs we are having some success recruiting.
Do any of you know of any good college team currently running the 3-4? I know Texas A&M ran it years ago but I don't recall seeing any team run it recently.
Once we announced we were switching to the 3-4, our top LB recruit de-committed and chose Florida instead. I'm wondering if this change in system will attract any of the better LBs next year. It's already too late for this year.
