New Maricopa County Board Chairman Thomas Galvin on the D-backs:"I can assure you the Board will work very hard with the Diamondbacks on addressing the future of Chase Field. I see my role in this as looking out for the tax payers best interest, that's my line in the sand."

I hope Phoenix figure out a way to keep them downtown. As an outsider I loved my experience at Chase Field. and phoenix have definitely improved their freeway system with the 303 and 202 sections. In texas or California those would be tolls, I almost felt guilty driving on it without paying. save for the small 22 mile stretch of IH 40, driving from Vegas to Phoenix is one of my favorite drives. As someone that grew up near Dallas and lived in Arlington, I hate that Arlington has the cowboys and rangers.

No tax payer money to sports teams any longer. If they can't afford it then sell the team. Subsidizing billionaires
This is the same funding mechanism for the Cardinals Stadium

D-backs CEO and president Derrick Hall told the Arizona Republic that the team has pitched a plan that would take 5% of the 5.6% of sales taxes that already exist at Chase Field to send to a fund (0.6% will continue to fund education). The bill’s primary author, Republican Rep. Jeff Weninger of Chandler, and Hall emphasized to the newspaper that the bill introduced does not add any taxes but redistributes them...
The Diamondbacks project the bill as proposed would provide $15 million to $20 million each year, according to the Republic.

HB2704 says the money recaptured by sales and income taxes would cover “reconstructing, equipping, repairing, maintaining or improving the major league baseball facility owned and operated by the district.”

Sounds reasonable to me.

I read the article and do not care. Makes no mistake I don’t want them to leave but I am fully against subsidizing sports when other uses for that money are maybe…possibly…more important than a professional sports team whose owner is sitting on a mountain of money. The days of supporting that nonsense are over for me

Keep in mind the stadium us often used for non Diamondback purposes. Maricopa County owns the building and as the owner of a structure that is used for other purposes beyond Dback games, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the owner to find a way to contribute toward the upkeep and renovation of their own structure...

Statement from D-backs president/CEO Derrick Hall on the AZ House passing HB2704:“Today was a first step victory in this much-needed public/private partnership. It shows the momentum that has been behind this bill and we are grateful to Representative Wenninger and Governor...
