Shankman Helming Cheaper Sequel
Source: Variety
March 11, 2005

Adam Shankman (Bringing Down the House) will direct 20th Century Fox's sequel to Cheaper by the Dozen, reuniting with him with topliner Steve Martin, says Variety.

The deal calls for Shankman to begin pre-production immediately and have the film ready to start principal photography by June.

The story is again by Sam Harper (Just Married) and follows the 12-kid family on vacation and in a head-to-head competition with a rival neighborhood family of eight kids.

"Cheaper" co-stars Bonnie Hunt and Piper Perabo's deals are being worked out but Hilary Duff's return is still questionable. The original, released in 2003, grossed $138 million.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

From above: The original, released in 2003... :bang:

The original was released in 1950, not 2003. 2003's version was a remake. :doi:

The original had a sequel also, called Belles on Their Toes. It had nothing to do with the family being on vavcation, or a rival family, so at least this sequel to a remake might have some originality to it. :D

Source: The Hollywood Reporter
May 13, 2005

Hilary Duff is joining the cast of Cheaper by the Dozen 2 for director Adam Shankman and 20th Century Fox, reprising the role she played in the 2003 hit, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Duff returns as the daughter of the characters played by Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, who are set for the sequel. Eugene Levy will play a corporate warrior whose type-A personality pits him and his eight perfect blond children against Martin and his family at an annual neighborhood competition.

The 2003 remake grossed more than $190 million at the worldwide box office.

Is this really necessary?

Is there nobody in Hollywood with any original ideas? Or are there no executives that are willing to take a chance on any new ideas?

I liked the 2003 movie but a sequel? I am not sure I liked it that much.

I watched this a few weekends ago, but just got around to researching it (I always do a little research of all the movies that I watch). It was actually better than I thought it would be. A typical goofy Steve Martin movie with some unnecessary serious parts. However, overall it provided some good laughs for a family film.
