Binge watching on Netflix now.

So glad I decided to. I actually always liked Cheers! when i was a kid. I think I picked it up in like 87 or so and started watching every episode. lol I was born in 1980 so I was a little bit young to be watching it, I remember a couple of times my Mom getting mad and turning it off because she thought it was inappropriate, which it was at times haha, but after a while they liked it too.

It became a funny thing in my family. Like friends and relatives would come over; "Where's little Bert?"

"Oh he's in the living room watching Cheers."

"He likes Cheers?"

lol my parents said it would never fail to get people to do a double take.


Anyways, This is about the show not me, but I think these old shows bring out a lot of nostalgia for those of us who remember when they were on, so feel free to share your cheers memories!


I am just through Season 1 and I guess I just took for granted when I was a kid how way ahead of it's time this show was. Right out of the gate in season 1 they dealt with heavy issues! Homosexuality, children out of wedlock, male insecurity, female empowerment. This show had it all and did it all while being hilarious.

They just dont make TV like this anymore, certainly not broadcast network TV. (ABC CBS NBC FOX)

I was only a moderate fan of the show, but I absolutely loved this Doonesbury tribute. (And yes, I remember this specific cartoon after all of these years, although it took me a moment to track it down.)

Cheers was a rare breed of television that was great from beginning to end. IMO the show never jumped the proverbial shark and every character, even the minor ones, were memorable although Kirsty Alley's Rebecca was grating at times. I believe this show gave birth to what's known as the cold opening but I could be wrong. If they didn't start it, they sure as hell perfected it. Only the producers of this show can take something as innocuous as someone tapping on the bar and turn it into something epic:



And, yes, the guy at the 20 second mark sitting behind Woody and Carla is one Glenn Beck. And Bert, if you love this show, check out Frasier. Equally as good up to about the 8th season where it became mundane.

easily the best sitcom ever made, IMO. Every single character they ever introduced seemed perfect and hilarious. Has my favorite two lines ever from TV:

Norm: "Women. Can't live with 'em... pass the beer nuts."

And one I use a lot in family life:

Frasier: "Clif... what color is the sky in your world?"

The last 5 minutes of the series finale was about as perfect of a closing as there has ever been on tv.

I don't know why, but I've always remembered that.

That said, both Kirstie Ally (sp?) and Shelly Long really, really annoyed me. Especially Shelly Long waiting until all the 'Norms' were done to say, "Norman." Still, one of the best sitcoms ever. I'd only put it behind MASH and Night Court, off the top of my head.

the Kelly song is an all-timer and Henri was an incredible comic foil. That's what the show did so well. It seemed like every new character it introduced was freaking brilliant. Robin Colcord, Gary, Henri, Kelly, Melville, Frasier, Lilith, hell.. even PAUL were all GREAT characters that continued to pump new life into the show wherever needed.

Fantastic series. Start to finish. Stopped at the "Cheers" while in Boston, but wasn't even close.

HDNet replayed the series a while back and I couldn't believe how well the shows held up. My favorites involved Harry the magician before he became the judge on Night Court.

The first year it was on I was the only person I knew who watched it. The ratings were horrible. But I was hooked from the first episode after Diane repeated the drink orders.

I was constantly telling people they should watch the show. I nagged my friends into watching the show. I recorded it on my VCR and gave the tapes to the people I worked with so they would know why I was so passionate about a show no one was watching. I should have worked in the PR department at NBC.

When the final episode of Season One aired I was in the hospital recovering from emergency surgery. Just as the show was starting some poor nurse came into my room to check my vitals and see how I was doing and I said, "JUST GIVE ME THE PAIN SHOT AND LEAVE ME ALONE!!"

I had to see how it ended. Which I did. With one heck of a buzz when the Dilaudid kicked in.
