The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed several of their free agent wide receivers this offseason but still need new offensive playmakers. The 2025 NFL draft lacks elite talent at the top of the class, making it likely that the Chiefs target prospects outside of the top 60 selections. Several productive Day 3 options could upgrade Kansas City’s depth at wide receiver.
Brooks is tall but lean at 6'2", 184 lbs. He wastes no movement in his release and uses two-handed swipes to clear jams against press coverage. Brooks uses a diamond release and hesitation moves to manipulate the corner early in the route and create a favorable release. This is useful on slants and other quick game routes.
Brooks lacks short-area explosiveness but uses his long strides to quickly eat up the cornerback’s cushion against off-man coverage. He’s not an elite vertical threat but builds up enough speed that cornerbacks must respect him working downfield. Brooks’ lack of breakaway speed results in contested catch opportunities on fade routes. He drew several defensive pass interference calls deep downfield in 2024.
Brooks’ quick feet help him decelerate and snap off route stems in front of off-man or zone coverage. He finds holes against zone coverage and works into space when the play breaks down and the quarterback starts scrambling.
Brooks relies heavily on contested catches because his physical limitations prevent him from separating at a high level. Tight hips prevent him from threatening loose, fluid cornerbacks with his route running. He offers very little after the catch. Brooks suffered from concentration drops last season and left significant opportunities slip through his fingers.
Brooks lacks elite physical traits but could provide the Chiefs with a younger, quicker version of what they sought in DeAndre Hopkins last season. He excels in contested situations and offers enough built up speed to drag cornerbacks into one-on-one situations downfield. Brooks projects as a fifth round selection who might slide in a crowded Day 3 wide receiver pool.
