Let's just ride this streak as long as it lasts. Right now, I feel any inning that begins with CY at the plate has the potential for alot of runs. He is the catalyst right now.

A solo homerun is better every couple nights than having him on base.

Preferring average to what he is doing lately would be ridiculous. Any how what really needs to happen is that we have him batting 4th.

Upton
Hudson
Byrnes
Young
Jackson
Reynolds
Snyder
Drew

That is the nastiest lineup I have ever seen. It would work too. he only has 45 rbis with 24 homeruns... that is almost impossible, and that is because he shouldn't be batting leadoff, take his hot hitting into the middle of the order!!!!!!!!!

Why? You'd rather he hit singles? What he is doing now is excellent.
Last night he had 2 homers and a double. That will get his average up . . . along with his share of singles.

A 5-tool player. Valuable to the team . . . legitimate ROY candidate.

As I mentioned in the other CY thread, I'd rather see him get his BA out of the .230's.

BC I really don't get you sometimes. Average will come. The fact that he is showing this kind of power already is a VERY good sign. Go back and look at the all time greats and none of them were hitting .330 out of the shoot. That comes with learning pitchers and major league nuances. But this kind of power over the course of the season is a lot more rare. Its one thing to go ona hot streak. Its quite another to finish the season with between 32 - 35 HRS.

As a frame of reference -

Ryan Howard only hit 22 HR's in 315 or so at bats in 2005. he did hit .280 but his protection in that lineup was alot better too.

The next year he was MVP.

Between Upton and Young I think we have a pair of legitimate stars.

Y'know, there's quite a difference between .230 and .330. Chris Young is forming his foundation and certainly looks potentially like a 5-tool player. Hitting for average and hitting for power are two of the five factors.

Did you expect CY to hit .330 coming out of the shoot? I never did. But I would like to see him set his foundation as more than a .230-.240 hitter. Early habits carry over.

I'm pulling for him to get ROY and become the well-rounded player we think he can. What's not to get? Let's pull together.

Back below .240, but a few more homeruns for the leadoff spark! Its about time he bats in the 4 hole with his power, we are wasting a lot of solo homeruns this year.

There's a reason why he's batting leadoff. He hits about .260 in that spot, compared to close to the mendoza line everywhere else.

there are 30 plus games in the season left. If Young gets to 30 30 club, he will be ROY without a doubt. He has more HR, more R, More SB, plays much better defense, and has been one of the centerpieces offensively of the diamondbacks. where as Prince, Hardy, Hart, and others are handling a good portion of the offense in MIL.

I would love to see Young win it but I would bet on Braun. His stats are more impressive. Young is a much better defensive player but I think the voters look a lot more at offensive stats.

Here are Young's stats:

Here are Braun's stats:

Advantage is definitely on Braun's side, but who knows, maybe Chris can have a big September and Braun goes into a slump?

I hate the phrase "Braun has it all wrapped up" THAT is BS. He is the leader, and the idiot media will probably vote him it, but they are not paying attention to what is going on. Braun started hot, and was annointed ROY back then. But the season is not over.

Braun is a good player, and is very deserving. But so is Young. Young has the speed, and is FAR SUPERIOR in fielding. Braun has committed 20 errors so far, while Chris is well on his way to a gold glove type season.

So, if fans and the mediots really looked at EVERYTHING, Young should win it. He is the better player.

Chris Young has made 359 outs in 494 PAs so far this season. Ryan Braun has made 240 outs in 362 PAs. If you reduce CY's PAs to Brauns, but keep the Out %age, CY would have 263 outs in 362 PAs, or 23 more outs. If you look at EVERYTHING, I'd think outs are one of the big ones to look at (especially if you're going to use errors on the other end).

What is that supposed to mean? We already know that Braun has a better batting average/better OBP. You stats guys crack me up. Then again, according to sabermetrics gurus, the Dbacks should be 10 games under .500....

Braun is basically a stiff in the field. Young makes plays that most other CF'ers do not.

Ask 30 GM's who they would rather start a team with - CY or Braun. Most, if not all, would say CY.

CY's bat speed is unreal. On his second home run yesterday his adjustment to the pitch location was incredible..

Now why is he batting leadoff? He should be batting cleanup, he doesn't get on base.

this would be my lineup:

Upton
Hudson
Byrnes
Young
Jackson
Reynolds
Drew
Snyder
Pitcher

Homer Simpson

First visit in almost a year...

Jon, you are being slightly homerish if you think Chris Young has any shot (at this point) for Rookie of the Year.

Without the home runs, Young is pretty much worthless at the plate. His OBP is less than .300 -- absolutely terrible. He has over 100 Ks with only 30 BBs -- also terrible.

Sure his defense is much better than Braun's, but Braun blows him away in every other category.
