CY's bat speed is unreal. On his second home run yesterday his adjustment to the pitch location was incredible..

Now why is he batting leadoff? He should be batting cleanup, he doesn't get on base.

this would be my lineup:

Upton
Hudson
Byrnes
Young
Jackson
Reynolds
Drew
Snyder
Pitcher
Upton's not getting on base any better. Young is there because he's been batting his best at that position, but yeah, his skills are best suited for the cleanup spot.

Chris Young plays a real glamor position in baseball, just like any other middle fielder position. You have to be really bad to stand out on defense on any of the corner positions. I think the fact Young has already made one of the highlight catches of the year is going to fuel some votes his way. I don't think it's going to be a runaway vote for Braun, who's going to get all the votes from the sabremetrics geeks.

Which sabremetric geek gets a vote in ROY again?

He is batting .192 for August. .192! Nobody outside of Arizona is talking Chris Young for Rookie of the Year. He is not the best rookie. He's not even the best Chris Young (although he is the best rookie Chris Young).

By the way, Ryan Howard is really bad at one of the corner positions. Jeff Francouer and Wily Tavares are really good at defense. Two years ago, Ryan Howard beat them both -- and they had decent seasons.

Young's defense will get him nothing for ROY votes.

30 HR/25 SB with 15 or so games left in the season... Does he get to 30/30 club?

Even if he doesn't get 5 more SB, every time he gets on base it makes it that much more likely the guy behind him sees fastballs. I'd love to see the averages of hitters who follow Young when he gets on base.

ACTA sports did a study on this using their Play-by-Play data last month. The conclusion was that with any situation a batter sees around 61% fastballs. with a runner on 1B with 10 or more SB, the fast ball percentage only goes up 62.8%, and with a runner on 1B with 30 or more SB, the percentage is at 63.2%.
