I think trading Chriss now would be a mistake. He's really young, and he's also relatively inexperienced as a basketball player. When I was looking at Aaron Gordon, his first couple of seasons are fairly similar to Chriss' statistically. I don't think it's incredibly unlikely Chriss can still turn into a plus starter. I'd love to see what he can do playing alongside a quality facilitating point guard.

It depends on the return. If they could get a late lottery pick for him, I'd be all for it. I doubt he could get that though, regardless of this suspension. I wonder what sort of value he'd have packaged with one of our other draft picks in order for the Suns to move to up with that pick. I'd gladly trade him for #8, which is where he was selected. I'd trade him for a 2019 pick from any team that is lottery team this year, even with some protection like top 7, so the pick couldn't be higher than where he was selected.

I’m glad you would take anything like the above, but No one is going to give us anything close to that... nor should they.

Immaturity (lack of discipline) & lack of motor were a couple of knocks coming out of college. Those are 2 red flags that are usually hard to overcome with young players.

On the plus side he has played better recently, cut down on his complaining to the zebras, and I think the fat part was with the intention of bulking up quickly. I would trade him for a top 7 but I don't just want to give him away either.

Too bad Bender didn't grab the starting PF position when he had the chance. Guess he was too timid in addition to lacking strength.

I don't think Chriss is anywhere close to the moronic level of the doobie brothers though.

Looks like Bender might want to grab the starting 5 position. Of course its very early and these things do fizzle.

From the last two games, I am on board with that! (Bender as C averaging +15 ppg and 8rpg)

Here are the details surrounding the Chriss suspension.

Chriss needed to put in more work because he only played 14 minutes in the Hornets game. He is apparently still not in top condition.

According to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, the Suns have a rule that if a player does not play 20 minutes in a game that the player has to do work after the game, usually an estimated seven minutes of cardio, and potentially something else.

The 20-year-old No. 8 selection by the Suns in the 2016 NBA Draft came into the season out of shape, and even past the season’s halfway point, interim coach Jay Triano admitted he’s still not 100 percent there.

He noted after a Jan. 31 win over the Mavericks that having Chriss on a shorter spurt of minutes was due to him not being all the way up to the team’s expectations.

“Until he gets to the conditioning level that we want, that’s the way we’ll keep using him,” Triano said.

We all knew he came in outta shape, but I’m shocked that 3 months into a pro season a 20 year old still isn’t in shape.

Other than the dispute with the coach, which we already knew, this was the big takeaway for me as well.

I'm going the optimistic route...He's clearly the next Shawn Kemp!

This is so deep I am not going to touch it.

I still have Kemp's basketball rookie card. I thought he would be the next superstar.

I can't confuse Chriss with Kemp.

@ColdPickleNachos

Somehow it still saddens me how Kemp never reached his full potential and the problems he had at the end of his career.

He was an elite talent.

He still had a pretty epic career, including being the leading scorer for a team that won 64 games and went to the NBA finals.

That he did. Still he could have been more.

He does have some traits similar to Chriss but Chriss does not have equivalent talent.

I was in awe of Kemp's talent.

It’s freaking embarrassing. He looked like crap in summer league out of shape, then shows up to the season out of shake... then is STILL out of shape 40 games in?

He’s either got rocks for brain or a hole in his heart. Either way, he’s an idiot until proven otherwise.

Like that we’re finally seeing a little aggression from Bender though and solid progress from JJ.

No question. I was mainly just making a fat joke at the expense of two athletes who are/were in much better physical condition than I could hope to achieve on my best day. :)

I know that.... that you were making a joke. :p

It's funny that Shawn Kemp made me sentimental. Who would have guessed.

I know foul trouble effects Chriss' minutes but I looked up to see how many times he's played more than 30 minutes in a game and in his 129 games in the league, 115 as a starter, he's passed the 30 minute mark just 19 times in his career. However this season he's only played in 30 or more minutes 3 times in his 47 games, 40 of those as the starter. That's a bit troublesome. Hopefully he can get things under control and the suspension was a wake up call of sorts. I'd hate to see what would would happen to him if he were in Kemp's position and had an extended offseason because of a lockout.
