"All Arena" OG, played in the last 2 Arena Bowls, the Soul had the fewest sacks in their league last year. He's 6'4, 325, reputation of a leader on and off the field. A Futures contract was signed, Ron Jaworski owns the Soul and believes Johnson will do well on the NFL.

I'm hoping this guy is a piece we've been looking for, he only allowed one sack in his rookie season (15 games). I imagine Arena ball being tough on the cardio for O-line guys, and the Soul also led their league in rushing last year. He's played for 3 years and doesn't miss games.

Anybody hear anything else on this cat?

AFL talent is significantly below that of the CFL, let alone NFL.

I think Johnson didn't play much football until he got to Kentucky. Military family, moved around a lot. He's naturally HUGE and strong, wears his weight well, and pretty athletic. Family put a higher priority on becoming a good person. Maybe he was a late comer to technique. We'll see.

Yeah I'm feeling the brains and brawn on this guy. I'm not saying he will take anybodies starting job, but I love the fact that we aren't using the draft and free agency as our only way of means. The guy is huge, durable, and not a head case.

Tommy Maddox had a good run after playing in the AFL. In the last 20 years besides Cameron Wake name one good player that transitioned from CFL to NFL.

FWIW, the Cardinals drafted Eric Swann, who was playing semi-pro football for $5 an hour. I know that's not the some thing, but not every decent player has a conventional path to the pros.

If they signed him to start, we have issues. If they signed him as a lotto ticket who will have to earn his way on the team, it can't hurt. I am guessing it is the second.

Yes sir, it would be a cool story but he would have to really excel at an even higher level. I think one of our 17 offensive line coaches might have put a word in for this guy, but that's just some hippie speculation.

The AFL is vastly different. For starters, there are only 3 defensive linemen. #2, only 1 linebacker is allowed to blitz. This makes an offensive lineman's job very easy. The AFL is pretty straightforward. Block who's in front of you.

And yet our OL under Grimm could not accomplish this straightforward block lol

You sound like a man that only dates 3 women.
