I would put the chances of James Farrior signing here at about 99.9999% if Butler became D-coordinator

I'll take some action, there... Pittsburgh and Farrior signed a five year extension this past fall. He's locked up till 2013. Plus, he's 33. The guy retires a Steeler.

This is interesting, to say the leaset. I wonder if any of the offensive FA's on the Cards are looking at this, too. I mean, someone like Kurt could be sitting there thinking, finally we might be able to hold a lead in the SB...and now I want to come back.

Bank on it now. Whiz will bring in someone with Steerlers ties that can run a more Steelers traditional style defense. This might be a mistake though letting Clancy go. I know they couldn't cover SH but he had this defense playing great leading into the Super Bowl.

My thought was the defense played great in spite of CP. Let's face it, he's not a 3-4 coach and wasn't he here in the Dave McGinnis year as well? Or did DG bring him in. Either way,it was time to go. You know Whiz had to be pissed that the Pendy prevent cost him as SB title and that was the last straw.

I hear a lot of people talking about Whiz being mad because Clancy's D cost him the SB. Clancy couldn't have done it without Whiz's blessing. Maybe not the specific play calling but the overall philosophy.

i'm not certain I agree. Whis is an offensive coach, he isn't calling defensive schemes nor drawing up or calling plays. I think his insistance on the 3-4 defense was the compromise that let Clancy stay when Whis took over

That's a logical thought.

However, Whisenhunt's comment in the post SB press conference, when asked about the moment the Cardinals took the lead with under 3 minutes to go in the game was that he was worried that we left too much time on the clock.

Doesn't sound like someone with confidence in his defense to make a game ending stop...

Considering that post SB comment, Pendergast's firing is not that surprising!

I think you mean Larry Foote who the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette expects to be cut in a move to make Timmons the full time starter.

Also think if it is Butler and we do move to a standard 3-4 D that A. Smith will not even be tried to re-sign. Smith isnt a 3-4 DE in a Pitt 3-4 D.

Again, Smith was signed to a five year extension in 07. He's here to 2012, and he's a brilliant DE in our system.

A Smith = Antonio Smith. He's a free agent, and less likely to sign here now.

Oh, and Foote's a possibility, but he's already expressed a desire to go to Detroit for a few years and retire. He wants to start an organization for troubled children, now.

Sometimes playoff success can make teams forget about their weaknesses from the regular season. Arizona ranked 19th in total defense (331.5 yards per game) during the regular season and 28th overall in scoring defense (26.6 points per game).

I applaude the Cards for not resting on their laurels and continuing to try and improve the team.

This is getting ahead of myself but is Berry or Okeafer the kind of LB's that a Pitt style 3-4 D would use? Both arent as athletic as the usual Pitt 3-4 guys.
