That says it all. We need to learn how to play our base defense before we start trying to create plays.
I dont think we have a base defense.. on some plays we had two down linemen.. that is overthinking things..
I'd recommend going back to a base 4-3 with this unit.. and play
Dockett-Watson-Campbell/Branch-Smith on early downs..
And then on passing downs use use
Laboy-Dockett-Campbell-Smith/Berry/Chike
This 3-4 isnt working.. it's negating arguably our best defensive player in Dockett, who is just getting double every snap and swallowed up.. in large part due to the fact that our pass rushing OLB dont scare anyone.. Chike is been terrible this yr.. Bert is always hurt.. and Laboy has just been so-so..
I just really think this guy isnt going to bring us a consistent product on the field while he is the coordinator. This defense is sickening. They will look like pro bowlers one half and then scrubs the next. Most of that has to fall on the coordinator and coaches for not coming out with any new adjustments for the next half. Clearly, the Panthers went in at half and came out with a solid gameplan to counter everything Clancy did in the first half. Did he not think that they were going to do this???? We just looked so damned lost out there the second half. Just ridiculous. When you look at a good defense, you saw the Panthers. A team that had consistency throughout the day. 10 points first half, and 13 the next. Cards give up 3 first half, and then 24 the next. That is not consistency.. and if this team is going to try and be a championship caliber team, then they are seriously going to have to look other places for a quality coordinator. The defense is where we are going to win any championships. I wanna see any remnants of Denny Green gone.
