UNCASVILLE – The Sacred Heart girls basketball team won its first state title since 2022, this time beating Southington 57-47 in the Class LL championship game Saturday night at Mohegan Sun.
Southington, which won the CCC tournament championship, had previously only lost once this season, to Conard. It was Blue Knights’ first appearance in a state championship game since 1993.
Fourth-seeded Sacred Heart (25-3) lost in the Class LL championship game last year to Hamden, 46-40 and last won a title in 2022 in Class MM.
Emily Mennillo led Sacred Heart with 16 points and 10 rebounds and Madelyn Burke had 11 points.
Southington (26-2) was led by Lily Cooper, who scored 14 points and had six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Hannah Blanchard had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
