My 12 year old daughter had discovered the movie "Say anything" with John Cusak and, in an attempt to get me to watch the movie, told me that it is a classic. I wouldn't go that far but we started talking, my wife included, about movies that were. The Breakfast Club and 16 Candles.

What do you all think are movies that defined the 80's?

Say Anything (IMHO) is an 80's classic. Without a doubt. I'd put Pretty In Pink over 16 Candles, but Breakfast Club tops the list for me.

Raiders of the Lost Ark et all, Nightmare on Elm Street...gotta think on some others.

80's classics?

Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's, and Weird Science would be the Hughes contributions for me. I showed my wife Say Anything the other night and she loved it. Cameron Crowe's one of my favorites.

But classics? Hmmm ... let's just say we all agree on the Indiana Jones and Back to the Future series. Star Wars Trilogy was technically an 80s thing, but we all think of it as 70s because the first one came out in 77. Other 80s classics:

- Amadeus
- Platoon
- Blade Runner
- Ran
- Das Boot
- Do the Right Thing
- Princess Bride
- Ghostbusters
- Field of Dreams
- Hoosiers
- Big
- Fish Called Wanda
- Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
- This is Spinal Tap
- Airplane

I can't think of anymore, but first person to mention Chariots of Fire or Big Chill gets the back of my hand.

Big was 80's...

Although I loved Amadeus, that one I kinda questioned, too.

Nathan,

How in the world have you not seen "A Christmas Story"?

You are missing out on a great piece of Americana.
