The Zach Allen one will never stop bothering me. I remember during the season being incredulous when people said we were probably going to let him walk, don't be stupid they won't do that. They did. Same with Murphy but moreso Allen because it was a team weakness. Watt retired, we'd let Chandler Jones go, allen was our best DL and we just let him go. He's never going to be JJ Watt but he's a good player who plays hard.

That was a huge mistake.

Those are all great examples and we'll see if they have long term sustainability. The Chargers and Broncos both hired HOF coaches, which is a big deal. The Commanders got the best QB in the draft and have felt a QB away for several years now.

Time will tell. I'd rather tear it down and start over after what we saw from Keim with both KK and Wilks. We've been doing patch work quick fixes for 20 years and I'm ready to try something new and happy with where we're going. I'm also on the "dump Kyler club" now too.
I do not know how you can trust Monti and Gannon’s judgement after they went all in on Kyler.

Either they were lying or they were wrong but either way it ain’t a promising start.

Agreed. The easiest leap for most teams is from gawd awful to mediocre. You literally have to just not be awful. In a league built for parity that’s the easiest step. And if this team loses out (which it easily could) a step from 4 wins to 7 is just that, meeting expectations. If you can’t make that step you’re just terrible at your job.

To think otherwise is a loser s mentality. I get it, we’re all cards fans, so we’ve been conditioned to have low standards. But to think finishing 3 games under .500 would be something to be ecstatic about is not how most nfl fans would react.
Yeah we can go back to the preseason expectations thread and less than six wins was by far a minority position—with the expectation that the Rams and Niners would be good.

Some of the strum and drang here is because the division was worse than we anticipated but the results will be about the same.

It’s gonna be real bad if we end up 2-4 in the division.

I'm thinking MB had something to do with that

This! That was why I posted the Bears last 13 years. Hopefully Monti and Gannon can get their guy soon so this team truly is theirs. I was jealous watching Cooper Rush of all people last night.

You know why, I'm always an optimistic person with this team. Heck, it took until this week to turn on Kyler. Football is my escape and I like to look at it with Rose colored glasses! Heck, these are even my sunglasses! Life looks better this way for me!

For the record, I love your brutal honesty and I know you're generally right, but in this case, I'm willing to wait to see how next season plays out. I've been saying since say one that I was giving them 3 years.

They undoubtedly get three years. No matter the outcome of the final two games. Doesn’t mean there’s reason for optimism or expectations beyond pure hope.

I totally get that. My posts were in regards to the thread title and firing Monti and Gannon. That would be like firing a home builder for the house being drafty before the walls were closed off. I personally see a foundation and posted the 30 or so players that a part of that and who will all be back next year.

We'll see if it's solid after one more draft and 4-5 impact FA signings. If Monti doesn't spend this offseason, I'll turn on him. This for me the most important offseason for this regime.

I don't see Gannon or Monti going anywhere for, at least, another full season.

Kyler could get shipped off though. I don't think they'll cut him, it's too much dead money, but if there is a market for him in a trade, and given the wacky QB trades I've seen the last few years, there are probably 2 or 3 teams that could talk themselves into shipping a pick 2nd or 3rd rounder for him.

They'd have to have an alternative in mind, my guess would be we sign Cousins on the cheap when Atlanta dumps him in March. Not an endorsement of Cousins though, I would not be thrilled to bring in another check down QB.

Great analogy.

4 or 5 impact FAs? There’s optimism and then there’s just smoking crack, Banky.

This is exactly what I’d suspect if they decided to move on from Kyler and found a willing suitor.

JG will get another chance with another QB before his seat warms up. He could be forced to make changes in his staff though

MO will get to hire at least one more coach before his seat gets warm

Both of these are iMO of course.
