I have done it many times, I always put my keyboard in the dishwasher.
The only thing you have to do is make sure it's completely dry before you plug it in. Even a drop of water can cause it to short out. Water won't hurt a keyboard when there is no power running through it.
Note though, if you have a more advanced keyboard like a Logitech G15 with the built in LCD Screen, I wouldn't recommend this. It's not good for keyboards with LCD's for obvious reason.
