Clemson’s late rally wasn’t enough to overcome Louisville, as the Tigers fell 76-73 in the ACC Tournament Semifinals on Friday night. Despite trailing by 15 points with just over three minutes remaining, Clemson fought back to give itself a chance in the final moments before ultimately coming up short at the Spectrum Center.
Down 69-54 with 3:28 left, the Tigers forced six turnovers and used a full-court press to storm back. Chauncey Wiggins knocked down a jumper to start the rally, and Chase Hunter took over from there. His driving layup with 54 seconds left cut the deficit to just two points, setting up a dramatic finish. Clemson forced a shot clock violation on Louisville’s next possession, giving the Tigers a chance to tie or take the lead, but Hunter’s final drive to the basket didn’t draw a whistle, leaving Clemson’s comeback incomplete.
Hunter led the way with 23 points, while Viktor Lakhin added 14 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Ian Schieffelin recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Jaeden Zackery contributed 11 points.
Louisville was led by Terrence Edwards’ 21 points, while J’Vonne Handley added 20. Chucky Hepburn chipped in 12 points, and Noah Waterman scored 10 for the Cardinals, who will face Duke in the ACC Championship Game.
Clemson now turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament, awaiting its seeding and matchup in Sunday’s Selection Show.
