Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe reports that Clinton Portis was "incredibly out of shape" for his workout with the New England Patriots. Young says Portis had cut 25 pounds in two weeks, and as a result "wasn't fit at all."

Wow! How do you lose 25 pounds in two weeks. That must be some workout. I still think Portis would be a solid backup for us. Give him the rest of the preseason to get in shape and I think he would be fine.

Being out of shape isn't what bothers me about some people wanting this guy. It's the injury problem. Essentially our number 2 RB has to be a guy what can play significant minutes if Beanie gets hurt. You don't want that guy being an injury prone RB.

It's not even the injury problem for me. It's that he's lost his burst as an NFL RB. He's a shadow of the player he was even just a few years ago.

It's time for him to hang 'em up, IMO.

Heck bring Clinton Portis anyway, just for a look see. If he is that out of shape then pass if not he still has something left in the tank and is a known commodity.

Yes, he IS a known commodity. He's known to be done. Kaput. Finis. Say goodnight, Gracie. (Goodnight, Gracie)
