The forward is averaging 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds for New York. Mardy Collis is also part of the deal.

Reporting from Philadelphia -- The reshaping of the Clippers continued with the acquisition of forward Zach Randolph and guard Mardy Collins from the New York Knicks for shooting guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Tim Thomas.

Randolph is averaging 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, leading the Knicks in both categories. Collins has appeared in nine games, averaging 2.2 points. The teams were scheduled to go over the details of the deal and the respective contracts with the league in a conference call this afternoon.

he move gives the Clippers someone with the ability to play in the low post, and makes them younger. Randolph is 27; Mobley and Thomas are 33 and 31, respectively. Mobley had been averaging 13.7 points and the oft-injured Thomas 9.5.

"I'm a little upset," said Mobley, in a voice barely above a whisper. "It was a surprise. I mean, I liked our team. I didn't give up on our team. I don't know what the owner was thinking, and don't know what anyone was thinking.

"I thought we were going to come around. It's hard. It's hard because I like all the guys a lot. It's tough."

Said Thomas, who played in New York for part of the 2003-04 season and in 2004-05: "It's a little shocking to have another chance to play in New York. The way the season was going with the Clippers, you had to know something had to happen. That's the nature of the business.

"From the beginning, once you get 10 new guys, it's going to take time for the guys to jell and to get an understanding.

"That just never happened."

Talks with various moving parts have been going on between the teams the last two weeks, and the Clippers made their last offer this afternoon. Earlier in the week, talks stalled when the Knicks wanted Marcus Camby in the deal.

The Knicks, who are intent on clearing cap space for 2010, picked up forward Al Harrington from the Warriors in exchange for guard Jamal Crawford, in a separate deal.

what the heck do the Clippers do with Kaman, Randolph and Camby? one of those guys has to go I'd think. Or maybe they just ride out they year with Camby - he's only got a year left on his deal, right? He'll probably get moved to some contender at the trade deadline.

^^No, get this:

Dunleavy wants to "convince" Randolph to come of the bench as a 6th man....serious!

Camby has 2 years left in his contract.

NY is now down to about $18M committed salary for the 2010/11 season, $11M of which belongs to Curry. Kind of surprised though they haven't been able to get any draft picks in the two deals.

They just dumped their two best players while they have a winning record. This is funny. Sell high I guess.

those are really bad contracts they're getting rid of and the teams involved are pretty bad. no way the clips would give up a first rounder and take on that contract.

Walsh knows the stats under DA's system is exaggerated, so you better sell high. Imagine we traded LB 2 years ago for the likes of Crawford, Monta Ellis, maybe even Roy as rookie!

How ironic; D'Antoni and Tim Thomas together again. D'Antoni always refered to him as "The Rental" while in Phoenix.

I would guess the cap for summer of 2010 will be about 62 million. The knicks are at 18 million for that summer right now. And that 18 million is from 2 players, jefferies and curry who both have player options.

If they can find a taker for curry trade 3 years left for 2 years like they just did, they can sign THREE max players during maybe the greatest free agent summer ever? If they can get rid of jeferies maybe not 3 as you have 11 for curry, 3 for the team option and danilo, and 2 high picks the next two summers. But they could do two max players, and another solid player at 7 million, add that to danilo, two high picks and maybe curry that's pretty damn good.

The knicks have a ton of options. I would love to be donnie walsh right now.

that basically what Orlando did back in the day when they cleared enough room to sign Duncan, Hill and T-Mac and Duncan decided to stay in SA at the last moment. Good decision because even though on paper that team would have been nails injuries would have killed them... although, come to think of it, T-Mac was pretty spectacular his first four seasons there - i guess with or without Hill that healthy T-Mac/Duncan squad would have been damn tough and man it would have set up awesome FINALS showdowns of in their prime Shaq/Kobe v. Duncan/T-Mac. Those Finals would have been epic.

Somehow it's not surprising that Mike D'Antoni wouldn't want a player who weighs 260 lbs. and averages 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds.

Small ball then. Small ball now. Small ball forever.

I think you have bigger worries right here with the Suns. I think your dislike for D'Antoni will come back to haunt you. When do you think Amare will want to be traded?

Money talks my man.. Money talks.

Amare won't be going anywhere.

Also, LOL@ the Clippers wanting Randolph to be a 6th man. Isn't he kind of... I don't know.. Too expensive to be a bench rider?

Anyhow, great deal for the Knicks. Even at best, the Knicks of this year with their start are an 8 seed and one and done. Why settle from now when you can get out of cap hell, and have enough to spend and spend high in 2010, which is a buyers market.

You can forget about doping the Knicks into taking bad contracts. Donnie Walsh knows what he is doing and he has his eyes set on 2010. They are going to be a very dangerous team

FYI one of the picks we traded to Utah along with Googs was New Yorks pick that is now gonna be a 2009 1st rounder(1-22) protected or a 2010 1st rounder (UNPROTECTED).

Thank god we traded two picks to get a rid of a expiring contract.

The Suns also traded a first round pick to move Q and two first round picks to move KT. I won't even get into selling picks.

You know looking at list of teams with cap space for 2010, PHX is not mentioned, considering Shaq, Nash, and Amare will be FA's. They could offer Amare the max as well, and we would be able to probably get another max player or 2 with Shaq accounting for 20MM and Nash for 11MM. There are going to be alot of big FA's that PHX will have a shot at a couple. With all the talented teams in the East, NY will need a couple of big FA's to even compete with them. PHI will be tough, ORL will be good, ATL, CLE & BOS.
