We're down to about 17 days and all's quiet on the Karlos Dansby front. I hope that's a good sign but there hasn't been any reports on how/if negotiations are going. I keep waiting for the "out of the blue" scroll across ESPN's bottomline that Dansby has signed an extension. Hopefully, it's the quiet before the storm. The scary thing is Graves seems to be getting the rookies signed, a good thing, but we all know how he is when it comes to multi-tasking when it comes to contract negotiations. It's like being in line at the deli counter, NEXT. Let's hope Dansby is up next.

I use to fret over this kind of stuff in the past. I don't anymore. Not because I care any less mind you. It's just that in todays NFL , THIS year is the only year that matters. Dansby and Q are Cardinals this year. Too many things can happen between now and then.

Even if Dansby walks away there is a positive side and that is the fact it will free up almost 10m in cap space allowing us to sign his replacement in free agency IF thats what we want to do.

This organization is no longer the sad sack franchise it once was. Even the best of teams have turnover to their roster every year to some degree. Do I want to see Dansby signed to a long term deal? Absolutely. The same would go for Q. However, that being said, I am focused on the 2009 season and we have all the pieces in place to make a run at the NFC Championship again.

Worry is interest paid on something that might never happen.

very well said. this is only my second offseason following ASFN and the Cardinals very hard during the OFFSEASON, and it has definitely changed me to that thinking.

Suggs announced today that he is very close to a long-term extension with the Ravens.

Its not gonna happen... he is very clear he wants to hit the open market. I will be happy if we can get all the rookies into the training camp starting from day one.

Dansby is not going to help us out. He will play out this year and go for a big contract next year. Being loyal to the Cards and taking a more friendly cap figure is not going to happen. I hope I'm wrong.

Don't forget about the uncapped year. If the CBA is not put into place prior to season's end, I don't foresee the Cards doing much with the $10 mil they save from Dansby

they're not saving any money if they don't re-sign Dansby. He still is going to get 10 mill this year. I don't get the "use the money elsewhere" argument because that money will have to be used to replace your best defensive player and it will likely cost as much, if not more, to get a player of Dansby's caliber on the FA market. By re-signing him long term, they lower his cap hit, keep him around for 4-5 more years, and allows them to ADD players instead of replacing players. I've thought all along that a deal will get done but i'm concerned about how quiet things have been. Maybe that's by plan but it could also mean that nothing is happening and that wouldn't be a very good thing.

You havent and wont hear about anything until after the July 4th weekend. Everyone has been and will be on vacation until July 6th. The two main Cards news sources(Urban and Somers) are on vacation and not working, so even if there may be rumors we wouldnt know about them because neither one is working to actually tell us, and wouldnt tell us unless its huge news. Also Wilson is on vacation and so is 99% of the NFL. The last week of June and the First week of July is about the only time logisticlly that FO people and coaches can actually take a vacation, so they do. These two weeks are the most dead the NFL gets, because no one is home.

I agree 100%

We are renting Dansby for one more year IMO.

Considering the history, the Cards winning just the NFC Championship is equal to winning 2 SuperBowls for a normal NFL team.

Wells wont be signed until the week before camp starts. Just like 95% of the other 1st rounders. So you wont hear much of anything for another 3 or so weeks, minimum.
