A strong presence from state champion Louisville led the local honorees as the All-Ohio Boys Basketball Teams for Division I, II and III were released Thursday.
Leopards head coach Tom Siegfried is Ohio's Division III Coach of the Year while Louisville's Brayden Gross is first team and Beau Siegfried is second team, as selected by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association. Massillon's Chris Knight is first team in Division II and Perry's Luke Wolf is second team. In Division I, Jackson's Kyle Monterrubio and Canton McKinley's Reed Sims Jr. both are third team.
The All-Ohio girls basketball teams for Division IV, V, VI and VII were released Monday and for Division I, II and III on Tuesday. The all-state boys teams for Division IV, V, VI and VII were released Wednesday.
Tom Siegfried led Louisville to its first final four appearance and first state championship in program history, with the Leopards beating Cincinnati Aiken 63-61 on Friday at University of Dayton Arena. Louisville went 24-5 this season, with wins against defending state champions St. Ignatius, Kettering Alter and Richmond Heights. The Leopards beat Garfield Heights and Ohio Mr. Basketball Marcus Johnson 49-48 in the state semifinal at Memorial Field House on March 16.
Gross averaged 17.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 54.7 percent from the floor. The 6-foot-7 senior forward was the Northeast Inland District Player of the Year. Gross is a Walsh University recruit who finished third in Louisville history with 1,167 career points.
Beau Siegfried averaged 13.5 points, 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 42.0 percent from 3-point range and 75.9 percent from the foul line. The 6-foot point guard was the District 4 coaches association D3 Player of the Year. The Ashland University recruit is Louisville's career leader in 3-point makes and assists.
Knight averaged 21.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the 19-5 Tigers. The 6-2 senior guard shot 53.8 percent from the floor, 41.0 from 3-point range and 82.6 from the foul line. Knight was the District 4 coaches association player of the year and the Northeast Inland District co-player of the year in D2. Knight's 1,265 career points rank second in Massillon history.
Wolf averaged 17.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals, leading the Panthers on a remarkable tournament run. Perry entered the postseason with a 9-13 record and advanced all the way to the program's first state championship game appearance. Wolf, a 6-6 senior guard and a 1,000-point career scorer, shot 83.1 percent from the foul line and 38.4 percent from 3-point range.
Monterrubio averaged 14.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.9 steals as he led the 19-4 Polar Bears to a share of their third straight Federal League championship. The 6-3 senior forward — the player of the year for the Federal League and the District 4 coaches association in D1 — shot 58.6 percent from the floor, 47.4 percent from 3-point range and 79.7 percent from the foul line. Monterrubio, a Walsh University recruit, scored 1,109 career points.
Sims averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists as he led the 20-6 Bulldogs to a share of the Federal League championship and their first regional final appearance since 2016. The 6-5 senior guard shot 47.4 percent from the floor and 76.8 percent from the foul line. Sims scored 1,169 career points.
