I guess I just figure that if your job is to write insightful articles on sports or anything for that matter you should at least know what you are talking about. It seems pretty clear that Tulumello does not understand the NBA salary cap.

BONUS SHOTS: With the NBA trade deadline a month away, Gugliotta's name continues to circulate on the NBA grapevine. The latest speculation has him going to Utah. Bryan Colangelo, who typically doesn't comment on such stories, could not be reached for comment. In any such trade, the Suns would want to take plenty of salary back for players whose contracts expire at the end of the season so they could get farther under the salary cap. . . .

Amare Stoudemire will miss his second straight game tonight with continuing foot problems. The Suns hope he can return soon, though Stoudemire wants to be careful he feels 100 percent before he plays again.

I mean I guess he could be guessing that the suns could take back 15% more salary than they give and Gugliotta's trade kicker is 15%. If my math is correct they could possibly take $2 million off their salary cap that way. However I won't give him that much credit. It is pretty common knowledge that the suns would like to trade Tom Gugliotta to Utah because they want to save the money this year from his salary and the luxury tax penalties.

joe, the media has been clueless for years. it isnt just in sports it is in every area that the media calls news. prime example is wesley clark, cnn used him as a army expert on the war. but anyone that has looked into his service record and the commands that he ran and what he did with them would know that this guy couldnt lead soliders out of a paper bag with a torch.

Since this is a basketball forum, I think you should leave the political comments out, unless, of course, you have a problem with Clarks jump shot.

Joe, I agree that there is no way he knew about Googs trade kicker. I've seen several other media members talk about the trade saving the Suns all of his 11.6 million in salary, as if the Suns haven't been paying him this whole time.

That article was pretty pathetic.

How about this one?

The main story is about the Marbury trade. I thought that was a pretty good read. Then I got to this at the bottom of the page.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=aldridge_david&id=1713985

The Suns and Jazz have talked about a Tom Gugliotta-Keon Clark swap, which would free up even more cap room for Utah this summer. The Jazz, quietly, think they could potentially be a player in the Kobe sweepstakes.

Kobe Bryant in Utah? Give me a break! The fans in Utah are easily the most conservative in the NBA, and Kobe Bryant wouldn't go there anyways. David Aldridge should know better.

Moreover how does this move free up even more cap room for UTA?

I was asking myself the same question. Is he even aware both their contracts expire after this year?

What an Idiot.

I thought Clark played center. Oops, wrong Clark. :D

I have to admit I find it strange that I do more research on my posts than these guys do for written articles. However, I'm not sure where the 15% trade kicker is listed other than on this board.

I know it is very difficult to do rankings, but Aldridge has the Phoenix Suns ranked #24 just behind Golden State who they just beat and three spots behind Portland who they beat twice this past weekend.

Penny Hardaway leaves, and Joe Johnson erupts, averaging 20.1 since the big trade, and yes, they are starting to win again with rookie Leandro Barbosa running the point admirably.

This is CBS' power ranking for us--Portland is #22, Golden St. #23.

Power rankings never seem to convert into a prediction of who will win when the two actually play, so I rarely read them. Often, they seem to guess at how well the team would play if it was healthy and just run the numbers. However, the numbers do not measure hustle, good defense, etc. that are big difference in who wins or loses.

Ya that is pretty funny. But I think Aldridge was just reporting that Utah actually believes they can get Kobe. Not nessecarly thinks they can get him. I think he wrote it so people like us could say, YA RIGHT, just like he did.
