Cardinals | Jones Needs to Prove Worth - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 21 Feb 2004 13:41:01 -0800

Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green is looking for TE Freddie Jones to prove himself this year. Green seems to feel if Jones does prove himself, success will follow for him in the Cardinals' offense. "Freddie is going to have to prove that he wants to go to the Pro Bowl," Green said. "I'll say this, 'If Freddie can start for us this year, that means he's going to the Pro Bowl. If Freddie can't go to the Pro Bowl, he's probably not going to start for us.' That's what his potential is and if he's not doing that I'm not sure why he's playing for us. I can't think of another tight end in the NFC that should be going to the Pro Bowl in place of Freddie Jones."

What does this all mean?

I agree with arthur. Green is calling players out, trying to find out who his leaders are going to be. I'm sure Green realizes that Freddie had good enough numbers to be the Pro Bowl TE last season. We're seeing a different psychology of coaching at work here.

It might be that Freddie hasn't shown up at the weight room yet, and Green wants to light a fire under his ass.

It was a generally positive statement, but just enough to give Jones pause, and make him think to himself..."well why wouldn't I start?"

Only if...... he gets off of his lazy hiney and busts it. Otherwise it sounds like he is A M F.

Love that kind of coach talk.

Concur. It is also a 'shot across the bow' to the Pro Bowl voters. Freddie's numbers were good enough but others were chosen instead. DG is letting them know he should be in the Pro Bowl.

Freddie will have no problem responding to this "cahllenge".. I seem to remember Freddie doing jumping jacks in the enzone because he was so often wide open. It seems that Plummer and Blake would never find him. Hopefully, McCown will be able to find him more than the other two QB's did. I think that Jones had a better season than Bubba Franks and Franks eventually went to the Pro Bowl.

Did anyone else see Freddy talk via satellite w/ Green about two weeks ago on the NFL network? If I remember correctly Freddy implied that he'd be back out to AZ asap to start working out w/ other team members. I wonder now if he's made it yet...
