You know I don't have a problem with that. I do expect Kurt Warner to get a series or two each game IF the situation warrants it.

Remember when the Steelers used to use Kordell Stewart as a slash in certain situations. This gives the opposition ONE more thing to worry about and have to prepare for.

Baltimore has one of the top three defenses in the league and we knew going in that they were going throw everything they had at Matt.

The encouraging thing is Whis out-coached Brian Billick IMO and had a counter for their defense. Even in defeat, I know we have an outstanding head coach and even Billick acknowledged in the post-game that this team is going places.

Under Denny, this team would have folded in the second half. Under Whis, they pull out all the stops, (punt block, recovering an onside kick, and shredding the Ravens defense with a no-huddle offense).

If Fitz doesn't lose the key reception to Corey Ivy *or* if Rackers makes that FG at the end of the first half, this is a tough road win against a team that doesn't lose at home.

Now let's beat the Steelers in our house. They looked fantastic against SF.

Where are the apologies?

I find it soo funny now that Warner has played everyone is in his corner. Two weeks ago my father started a thread suggesting that we give Warner some PT and was bashed.

Still waiting for apologies from:

Leinart should start against the Steelers because he is our QB. If he doesn't learn now, when does he?

I still think its stupid. No reason to apologize. Yanking around your QB of the future makes no sense UNLESS he is totally stinking up the joint (like today). Warner shouldn't see the field unless there is poor play or injury. A relief pitcher role is stupid and will cause more harm then good IMO.

Matt should be our guy leading into next week as he is the future but Warner was so sharp today it was scary...Matt will surely be on a short leash...

It's hard to argue with success, but I will anyway. I don't agree with Whis' decision.

You need to stop taking everything so personally, especially since it wasn't even you who I was replying to, weeks ago.

We should compare the posters who want Warner to start next week vs how many wanted Leinart to start after the ATL game last season.

Two completely different situations. This year our coaching should win us the close games where last year, it cost us those games. Last year this team would have folded and lost by 20 points or so. We have a chance to win this year and we need to take whatever steps are necessary to do so.

I cant believe most of you want to start Leinart!
Warner played an outstanding game against one of the best defenses in the league.
Why wouldnt we go with the guy who gives us the best chance to win?
If Im the coach I play the best player regardless of...
age, salary, name, players feelings, fans favorite, etc.
Isnt the bottom line winning the game?

In any endeavor you need to adjust to the situation. If your QB is having a bad week or two as is Leinhart then sit him an adjust unless you do not care about winning. I am not ready to give up on the season and I think Warner clearly is the guy to give us a better shot at winning. Just because we named Leinhart the starter to start the season does not mean you do not adjust if he is playing very poorly. Do not let him learn by giving up on the season after only three games. Adjust Adjust Adjust to the circumstances. He has a serious problem right now and probably has lost the confidence of some of his players after they saw what Warner could do.

Leinart doesn't seem he has that fast zip on the ball. Which Warner seems throw with velocity. Is Leinart hurt or he never has/had that velocity since college???

I agree with you that this is what happened. Whis is playing games with the QB position and has created a QB controversy. Well, the genie's out of the bottle now and he can't only go halfway. He needs to play Warner now, and Warner will either reward the decision or self-destruct. I hope Whis really wanted Warner to be the starter for good because that is the inevitable result of what happened today. Unless Matt does start and leads 3 consecutive TD drives against Pittsburgh.

Good move WHIS! No Brainer here. Keep Matt in there, stay in his ear until he gets it period. Hopefully seeing how Kurt went about his business today, will motivate Matt to put in the extra time to learn and use the No-Huddle the way Kurt did today. Matts still early into the offense, regardless of whether you want him to be Peyton Manning or not, he's just NOT, maybe someday he can be a top 10 QB in the NFL, but lets not pull the carpet out from under his feet just yet, show patience.

I'd much rather see Matt struggle a few games and get better via experience, than see Kurt play a game or 2, get hurt and then you bring back in Matt with his bruised confidence, and lack of reps in practice the last 2 weeks.

I'm here for the long haul, I prefer to see Matt climb out of this hole, than to waste any more time on Warner. He had one good half folks, lets not CROWN HIM! Warner is the backup!

Doesn't matter which team it is, but the most popular player in the building is the backup QB, evidence by the threads today.

The problem for Whisenhunt this week is that Warner didn't just play a tad better, he was WAY better than Leinart today. I mean, the offense looked like we all thought it could. He was shredding the Ravens D with ease, hitting both Boldin and Fitz. That opened it up for James to get back in the game.

This isn't like most of our past QB controversies....you know, arguing about which pile of crap stinks the least.

For Leinart's sake, and the team's, I sure hope he gets off to a good start next week.

Matt needs to do two things. Stay focused on football, and study harder in the film room. He looked skittish today which is lack of preperation IMO, that said BAL D was moving all around and I imagine it was very confusing for him.

Whiz is making the right call here. If he benches him for Kurt, he could do sever damage to his confidence and growth as a QB. Whiz is a great coach. This team is 1-2, but the best 1-2 Cards team I have seen in a long time. This is the toughest stretch in the schedule and I have no doubt Matt and company will return to form Oct-Dec.

From watching Warner's post game interview, it appears the team planned all week on Warner coming in to run the two minute offense if the situation ever called for it.

When we switched to the two minute offense full time, Leinart came out of the game.

I don't think enough people value the "experience" factor that an older QB has, especially against a radical defense such as Baltimore's.

As Kurt said after the game today, young QB's get so focused on trying to figure out which of the defense's front seven is going to blitz that they end up ignoring the secondary and throwing interceptions.

I'd compare it to an aging pitcher in baseball that is more effective as he gets older, even though he has less velocity on his pitches.

That said, I agree with going back to Leinart for next weeks game. Last thing we need to do is destroy Matt's confidence.

Go Cards!!!

EDIT -This is from the official site:

The Cardinals trailed, 23-6, in the second half before Warner – who was always going to be inserted into the game during the Cards’ no-huddle packages – began dissecting the Ravens’ defense, which had made life hard on starter Matt Leinart....“We planned (Kurt playing) going into the week,” Whisenhunt said. “There was too much for Matt to focus on.

Horrible, horrible coaching decision. Horrendous. The problem is that the Hollywood hotshot apparently failed to work hard enough in the offseason. You cannot make that preparation up during the regular season. During the season, you must be focused on your opponent and the new packages you're putting in. You cannot be worried about learning the initial offense. This kid needs benched for one because he needs all the time he can get actually learning the offense, and for two because he gives us almost no chance to win against Pittsburgh. The offense completely turned on with Warner at the helm; he needs to stay there until that punk is actually ready.

Sorry for the Leinart hate, but it really, REALLY pisses me off that he didn't take this all seriously enough. It makes me fighting mad. It's the kind of a thing that a spoiled brat would do. He now needs to step up, apologize to his team for one, and get himself right.

Thats a little harsh don't you think? Maybe the difference just might be experience, Kurt has it, Leinart is trying to aquire it.

Not at all harsh. Matt was clearly not up to the challenge today. Not even ready enough for a learning experience.
