Nothing earthshaking, but here goes:

1. On the record: 8-8 isnt acceptable, its average. Happy for a bunch of players who had never won 8 games as Cardinals, but the goal is the playoffs.

2. On Rolle -- evaluation will take place over the offseason-- where are his skills best suited? Work in technique resulted in better play both inside and outside. Showed he could be very effective inside in the nickle; does that translate to playing FS? Didnt endorse the move inside to FS, but didnt rule it out either.

3. On Edge-- said nice things about Edge, but his tone was very lukewarm.

4. On the QB situation-- as a former player, didnt think that a starter should lose their job simply from injury. That said, Qb is like any other position, Matt has to perform to keep the job.

5. On the offseason -- focus will be on keeping Dansby, Pace, addressing Fitz, but also said that improving the roster will happen as well. Described their approach as "closer to the Pittsburgh approach to free agency".

I like taking the Pittsburgh approach and building through the draft and avoid overpaying for free agents much like SF did last year. Need to get our core players resigned. The Fitz situation will be interesting. I guess we will find out if he wants to stay here. I certainly hope he does.

I wonder what it is the coaching staff knows that we don't as fans ("a lot", yes, but I mean in Rolle and his abilities).

I also heard the interview. I had a feeling when talking about the RB position that he would like to bring in a young RB (i.e draft pick). He said its good to have some young players for the skill positions to build on and develop.

Intersting last comment.

Could he planning on a skill position draft and a trenches free agency?

Sounds like maybe he'd like to have redo of our top pick this season. :D

Good CBs and RBs in this draft.

Faneca is all but a Cardinal already.

Possibly...

Now add those comments to Graves comments of not being as active. His statement could mean less of the headliner positions being sought after such as OL, DL, blocking TE's, Wr depth, Kicker, Punter and like positions.

Sure does make sense...and also why he'd put that info out there early to temper the reactions of people expecting us to flash cash for a top CB or LB or something.

concerning your position on 8/8 being unacceptable. i think it depends on where you are coming from. it would be unacceptable next year for the Colts or Patriots but would look good to Atlanta or Miami. you just do not go from a 4 or 6 win team to a 10 or 12 win team under ordinary circumstances. yes, some teams do that but they are the exception. we have made a jump to 8/8 and should expect improvement next year. hopefully for me IMHO a 10 win season would look very good. no one should be happy with 8/8. i am not. I do not however call it unacceptable as in the real world that is about what i expected. if it were unacceptable you might expect to see coaches fired and the wringing of hands.

Coach Wis said it, I only reported it.

I was happy to hear that he has higher expectations than a .500 season. I think he knows that 8-8 wont cut it next year.

I agree. We need to be using the Green Bay stategy: 6-10, 8-8, 13-3.

Since we were 5-11 in '06 instead of 6-10 we can do 12-4 next year.

There is a big difference between "expectations" and "unacceptable". What did most of us "expect" this year? I would guess it might average out to 8/8. We all wished to make the playoffs. No one in his right mind expected us to go to the super-bowl. How many years has it been since we went 8/8? A long time in my mind. New great stadium that seems to be filling up so the Bidwills should be raking in some $$$. We went out and got a high profile runner last year. Let ownership continue doing good things and we will continue improving from 8/8. If we go backwards next year what then? That should only happen if we let our better players go or Matt fails to mature.

Hey, the Pittsburgh strategy means he's here coaching for the next 15 years. What's wrong with that? I'll take a Super Bowl every few years and the playoffs more often than not. :)

you can only take the pitt approach if your drafts are close to spectacularly successful. for years the steelers lost out on their FAs but were okay b/c they drafted replacements so well. we don't have that well from which to pull . . . yet.

Disagree. I don't think identifying talent means anything without proper coaching and getting growth out of your players. This is especially true rounds 2-7 considered the part of the draft where the best teams get better.

The Steelers have just been great at cultivating talent, which hopefully is a skill Wiz brought with him when he refers to "Pittsburgh Steeler Philosophy". I have my doubts if late round picks like Joey Porter, Clark Haggans, and Willie Parker would have succeeded as they have in many other places other than Pitt. Identification of talent is important no doubt but I think that's giving too little importance to what happens to the player after he's drafted.

The good news is it is difficult to deny the significant growth many past Cardinals have gone through this season under Wisenhunt and his coaching staff.

Drafts don't have to be spectacularly successful if you have a model of the type of player you want to draft and then grow that talent to maximize his ability. Or at least you will have more hits than misses. THAT'S what allows the Steelers to replace FA after FA. JMHO
