1. John Fox - Carolina he is a lock to go

2. Tony Sparano - Steven Ross is so pissed and embarrassed Jeff Ireland has to go and I doubt the new management keeps him Sun Life Stadium is empty.

3. Jack Del Rio - on the bubble, although he may have a good enough season to save himself

4. Gary Kubiak - lot of talent on that team but not many wins, many close losses.

5. Jeff Fisher - it seems like it is Vince Young or Jeff Fisher, not both.

6. Norv Turner - on the bubble..... again. Out of playoffs.

7. Eric Mangini - too close to call , but Holmgren inherited him

8. Marvin Lewis - bubble boy, Bengals leash may be getting short

9. Tom Cable - he works for the crazy man

reading this thread made me think of this, i hope wallyburger dosen't mind. well I'll put money on it that Jerry Jones will have Bill Cowher as his head coach next year. he will make Cowher and offer he just can't refuse because he will pay anything to have a winning coach. Cowher said he wanted a few years off before he would come back to coaching. he will not go with the interim. but then again i could be way of base here. jmho

The amazing thing is that there will be more openings than really qualified candidates. 4 have already been fired, there probably will be at least 6 or more fired, I have a hard time coming up with 10 good coaching candidates.

Bottom line is there may be some rethreads that are only adequate guys like Brian Billick, Jim Fassel, Steve Mariucci to name just a few. It will be very interesting.

I think this is one of those years college coaches will be tapped. You have a guy like Harbaugh at Stanford with a $3 million dollar a year offer sitting on his desk for two weeks and he can't be more disinterested in talking about it. Or signing it. Bo Pelini is another guy with an NFL pedigree who I could see getting a head NFL job.

I'm glad that SF picked this season to find a new head coach. The best candidates will have their pick of the prime jobs which will leave the 49ers with second and third tier candidates.

My interest in Cowher going to Dallas is because there are rumors about him coming to Miami. No thanks as a sorta Dolphin fan ( Cards come first ). The guy coaches boring football. His teams are like paint drying.

Matt Cavanaugh was run out of town on a rail when he was the OC in Baltimore. I'd like to bring him here as OC (he's QB coach with the Jets); he'd have better talent to work with, I think.

Agreed. I didn't say it's a smart move, but coaches get sucked into that all the time -- terrified of hiring a re-tread or getting caught up in the hype. Think anyone wants to hire a Patriots staffer now?

I think the college coaches that have NFL experience and run a pro offense would be considered good candidates. ( Harbaugh- Stanford, Ferentz- Iowa and perhaps Mike Sherman Texas A&M could also return.)
