It didn't hurt, but I think the Pistons would have figured out a way to get Sheed anyway. The Atkins thing was just a bonus because it gave them cap space no one believed they could get so easily.

No, it wasn't just a bonus it was a need for them because they didn't have more expiring contracts (than Rebraca's, Hunter's and Sura's) for matching with Sheed's salary.

So they had to convince another team that they should take a longer contract for an expiring deal because ATL refused to accepted other than just expiring contracts for Wallace.
