I hate to be the bearer of bad new but... Cody Brown is done for the year !!!

I think this puts us in serious trouble with our linebacker depth.... I would post the link but don't have enough posts...Just do a search on scouts.com...

Also, it might open up a spot for another player who is on the bubble if we decide to IR him. Maybe Lance Long or someone else??

I honestly think we will have to watch other teams cuts and pick up another body.... What do you think???

Sucks!

That is a killer when it comes to the pass rush.

We are know officially, IN NEED, of a pass rushing OLB.

And don't have much cap room to play with as well.

I just hope this doesn't turn into another Kenny King incident.
:mulli:

UGH! That ain't good enough.

Left Outside Linebacker (RDE in 4-3):
Clark Haggans
Victor Hobson
Will Davis

Right Outside Linebacker (OLB in 4-3):
Chike Okeafor
Bertrand Berry

AS for what is out there:

Willie McGinest
Antwan Peek
Rodrick Green

Not much........

What the hell is a "devastating but rare injury?" Did he fracture it into a million pieces? Did he tear some ligaments? Combination of both? Don't hold out Mr. Agent

As for depth, the only other player aside from the aforementioned who can possibly slide in and provide depth is Chase Bullock #96. He played mostly WLB as a senior. However, I think we need to go shopping and see if we can find a free agent off the streets to fill in. The depth at OLB is scary.

FWIW, I thought Will Davis was outperforming Brown so far in preseason.

Is this going to be a Kenny King type injury?

Sorry, but I have a hard time believing that a wrist injury that will cost you 5 months wont also result in permanent damage. :headbangsoffwall:

GASP! McGinest is the only one I would consider, but we would have to give him a walker and high rate life insurance. But then again, he would fit in with the other long toothed OLBs already on this team

With all due respect to Kent S

He's quoting a twitter from Cody's agent which offers no specifics other than that it's a "freak injury."

As of 11:30 am ET Monday morning, the official Cardinal website (including D Urban's blog) have not reported anything.

Like I said - I respect K Somers, but would really like more to go on other than an agent's (reported) tweet.

My instincts are telling me to "cool it" until we know more.

And you've been a Cardinal fan how long?

It sure would be easier to "cool it" if we didn't have the history.

I would think that we'd go with Victor Hobson as an OLB, his natural position, and look for an ILB. ILB's might be easier to find. Keep in mind that most posts I've read, said that Brown was probably a year away from contributing. Still wished we kept Monte Beisel.

Other than depth, I hadn't seen anything from Brown that makes me think this is a big loss. I hope he heals up and proves me wrong next year, though.

As a pass rusher maybe but that is only 1/3 of his OLB duties though. Dropping back into coverage and setting the edge he has been without a doubt not awful, in fact he has done pretty well. He has done very well against the run and very well in coverage. Will Davis may have a one more QB pressure then Brown, but Brown has cleary outplayed him in every other aspect.
