Four years in a row, FOX Sports analyst Colin Cowherd has picked a bad team to be good the next year. This year, he's picking the New England Patriots to be good.

The Ringer founder Bill Simmons even went as far as comparing the Patriots to the Washington Commanders.

"The Patriots' recipe is exactly the same as Washington last year. The Washington thing did not make sense," said Simmons. "Then you look at, and it's like terrible coaching staff, all of a sudden, they had a good coaching staff. They all of a sudden had a good quarterback. The year before they didn't.

"They spent a bunch of money on free agents. They did well in the draft, and they played an easy schedule. So we know what the recipe is. We look at it every year. It's reasonable to go from four wins to 10. We see it every year."

The Commanders were one of the best success stories in the league last season. They went 12-5 and finished second in the NFC East. It was their first winning season since 2016 and the highest number of wins the organization recorded since 1991.

The Commanders scored the second-most points in a season with 485 points. They also appeared in the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, led by their talented young quarterback, Jayden Daniels. He threw for 3,568 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

This is certainly high praise for the Patriots to be compared to a Commanders team poised to be contenders in the NFC for a long time. Fans in New England can only hope that the Patriots follow the same path.
