With 3 of the 4 semifinalists from the midwest, plus Michigan winning it last year, it's getting to be pretty clear which region of the country is now dominating college football.

Hint - it isn't the SEC anymore.

So, all four bye teams lose.

Ohio St v Texas

Notre Dame v Penn State

I think Ohio St beats Notre Dame for the title.
that's kind of what I'm thinking if I picked the games today. 2 weeks ago I would have picked Texas with confidence. Texas will really have stand tall.

This is the final four I expected once it was announced that Beck was out.

Interesting. I like the 12 team playoff and don't see a reason to expand to 16. I think we'll see changes with auto byes and seeding, but what CFB really needs is to realign 80 or so teams into eight, 10 team regional conferences.

Yeah, they need to not freak out with big changes after 1 year. But if the bye continues to be a disadvantage after 3 or 4 years there will be huge pressure to go to 16 teams.

The bye issue, I think, is overblown and could easily be fixed by compressing the playoff schedule.

Unfortunately they will adjust by adding and not subtracting. They should really go down to 8 teams. That would make scheduling easier…16 will create a nightmare unless you are willing to double book games possible creating some ratings issues.

Understand that if it was 8 teams this year, Arizona State would not have been in.

They will never make fewer games and cut revenue. It's only a matter of time before they go to 16. I agree on compressing the schedule. Start the week after the regular season is over. Play 4 weekends in a row, ending up the Monday after new Year like it has been.

This is not hard. FCS has done it for a long time.

Yup - they will not go backwards
They need to get rid of giving Army/Navy the exclusive use of the weekend after the CCGs. No reason not to start the first round then.

And yes, as a NAU fan, FCS playoffs have 24 teams
