Interesting insight from Cowboys especially when they are comparing him to Davis in terms of strength and size.

Cowboys | Team unsure of position for Davis
Fri, 9 Mar 2007 02:10:55 -0800

Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the Dallas Cowboys have yet to decide whether OL Leonard Davis, who just signed a seven-year deal worth $49.5 million, will play right guard or right tackle. Some of that will depend on whether the Cowboys re-sign unrestricted free-agent OT Marc Colombo. The Cowboys would probably prefer Colombo at right tackle, where his great strength and size becomes a much bigger factor.

I would indeed like to see Colombo at right tackle.

Though, I finds it very strange that we have four coaches that all saw Colombo getting some kind a breakthrough last year, but still we have not even called him in for an interview.

I know this has been said a lot of time but for some reason people still believes that Colombo is a possibility.

He might be, I am not saying he is impossible, but four coaches?

They got to know something that we do not.

How would we know if we called and inquired? IMO he will resign with the Cowpucks. Nothing to get exited or down about here.

The only reason I think they are not bringing in legit tackles is because they will draft one of Joe Thomas, Levi Brown, Tony Ugoh or Joe Staley in either the 1st or 2nd round, and feel that any one of those guys is a better option than anyone they can bring in via FA.

It is the only line of thinking that makes sense.

At least two of them are projects. But with Grimm in the fold it makes sense. You mold them how you want them.

That is a good thought but if true it shows how bad the fa class really is

...and I will bet that is the thinking. It is not fair to discount the new coaching staff and scouts so easily. They are not dumb and more likely than not can watch a game with a much better critical eye than most of us. Wouldn't you agree?

The bad thing about going into the draft with a glaring need like we have at OLT right now is that it could increase the likelihood of reaching for a pick in one of the rounds. Columbo isn't better than Ross or Gorin I guess?

Exactly right. If you HAVE to get a starter at a given position in the draft, you are setting yourself up for a bad draft.

Also, the other teams in the NFL will know who you are targeting and if a team behind the Cards needs an OL, they will make a move and trade up, getting the Cards OL players.
