I used to be squarely in the sign Mili camp, and still wouldn't be terribly disappointed if we did, but I've read enough posts breaking his game (and age) down that I think Becht would make a better signing.

Becht has underachieved in NY thus far, but he is a decent blocker and pass catcher. I think his one knowck may be his route running--seems like you never see that guy on anything deeper than a 10 yard route.

I think Mili is probably a better pass-catcher than Becht, but I've been convinced by fellow posters that he isn't the blocker I thought him to be.

Sounds like Mili is the likely signing, though. He's still an upgrade over Jones, who seems to be such a one-dimensional (that's the dimension of "catchapassandfalldown") player that he's useless in situations that require a block.

I don't think either Mili or Becht is an upgrade in the passing game over Jones and I don't think Jones was all that great and even a worse blocker.

I did read somewhere that Freddie didn't drop a pass all year...
- can't confirm

I think Becht is the best of the TE's remaining with Wiggins #2.

Unless Mili is cheap I wouldn't even consider him because his scouting report reads worse then Jones. Ask yourselves how many Seahawks games you watched last year...in any of those games you watched did Mili do anything to impress?

To me, what it comes down to is: Are we better blowing some of our cap money on Mili (who's not a great blocker) or Becht (who isn't considered much of a receiving threat)...

Or would some of our young, backup guys like Eric Edwards, Bobby Blizzard or Lorenzo Diamond be better blockers, possibly just as good receivers and, therefore - compared to Mili or Becht - not that big a risk?

Uh, yeah. Mili imprsses evertime I see him play. And, I watched a lot of 'hawks games last year because my dad is a Seahawks fan.

Mili is one of hose guys that you don't expect to do much, but he always comes up with a big play.

This is one signing (the impending TE signing) that I'm not too concered about. The Cardinals new offensive coordinator, Keith Rowen, was formerly a TE coach. He has the experience to know what to look for in a TE and I am confident that he'll find a guy that fits the type of system he wants to implement.

Clearly Freddie Jones wasn't his type of guy . . .

If you want the best tight end out there for us, it's easy.

Wiggins. He had 71 catches this year for 705 yards and 4 td's. The most astonishing stat? Thirty three(33) of his receptions went for 1st downs.

Mili has a knack for finding an open spot. He is the typr of guy that will make the catch to keep a drive going. He will not strike fear in opposing defense, nor will they have to game plan around him.

Becht according to nfl.com has him listed as 6'5" and 272 lbs. Stat wise he is not very impressive at all.

I would love Wiggins...are we not even pursuing him at all? He seems like the perfect fit..a workhorse, determined player.

I would have assumed that Denny'd be all over Wiggins..

Wiggins is a good TE, but his stats also benefited from the fact that on third down, the secondary was covering (sometimes) Moss, Burleson, and Robinson, coupled with whatever pass-catching RB they were playing that week, topped off by a mobile QB with a big arm.

Of course, I'm not one to be discredit performance based on an all-around good offense - I just hope that we'd be able to maximize him in the same way.

I mentioned in another thread that Mili did not look like an upgrade to me unless he was a bulldozer as a blocker. I don't have any personal knowledge of his blocking skills, but have heard others state that he's not a great blocker. I'll assume he's a little better blocker than Jones and a lot less pruductive receiving.
For what it's worth, I am predicting Hodgins will line up at TE this year. He is a lot better blocker than most TE's and did'nt seem too bad catching the ball from what I remember.

I don't think TE is a priority. I honestly think you can plug in a mediocre guy and get it done this next year, however I know the Cards new offensive coordinator was a TE coach, so he is probably putting some importance on that position.

Thats because they don't have statistics for blocks. Thats the strength of his game not catching passes.

How about we scrap the Wakefield to OT plan and change him to a TE? :p

Nothing like a 6-7 290 LB TE in the redzone.

Who do you think defenses will cover on third down here in 'Zona? I think they'd be more worried about Fitz, Boldin and Johnson.

I think it's a priority but pretty far down our list of priorities and I think you can get a guy in the draft every bit as good as just about any FA out there this year (Bubba Franks might be the exception).

i agree with all of that. but stats alone fail to tell the story on becht. he's a superior blocking te and a good short yardage guy receiving.
