The Indianapolis Colts made two big splashes on the defensive side of the ball in free agency, signing Cam Bynum and Charvarius Ward.

Recently, linebacker Zaire Franklin was on Good Morning Football on the NFL Network with Bynum, as well as Laiatu Latu, and shared his excitement about the two newest members of the Colts' secondary.

"I'm thankful, man, first and foremost," Franklin said. "Having a playmaker like Cam on the back end, somebody who's so versatile. We all loved watching that Minnesota defense last year with (Brian) Flores, just the different things that they were able to do. Cam being able to play multiple positions, multiple spots. Obviously bringing great energy and great enthusiasm, not only to the defense but he's a dog back there. You want somebody in the middle of the field who can play red line to red line and make those type of plays."

In Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme, a lot can be put on the plate of the safety position. In a defensive system where disguising coverages is a key element, versatility and the ability to handle different roles is a must, and Bynum has showcased that skill set throughout his career.

The safety in Anarumo's defense also has to be comfortable being on an island, which Bynum is also comfortable with, and he has turned those opportunities to roam into a lot of ball production.

With Ward, Anarumo recently highlighted his fit in the Colts' new defense, mentioning playmaking ability with the ball in his hands, along with his vision and awareness, which puts him in a position to make plays on the ball.

Ward adds aggressiveness to the secondary as he's more than comfortable playing press coverage and wants to travel with the opponent's top wideout each week.

"Going over to Mooney, man," added Franklin, "Charvarius Ward, huge fan of his game. He's a dog, straight up. I think a lot of times in that secondary, it's not only just about your skill level, but it's about your mentality. Like you want somebody who wants to challenge the best receiver on the field every single play, and that's a mentality he's coming with."
