The Crew signed 23-year old defender Cesar Ruvalcaba to a first-team contract through 2026 with a club option for 2027.

Ruvalcaba made his MLS debut with Columbus on Saturday in a scoreless draw against New York City FC, joining the Crew on a four-day contract from their MLS NEXT Pro team, Crew 2.

Starting in the New York City matchup, Ruvalcaba recorded 73 minutes and one shot attempt.

"He showed good things offensively, defensively, and also, is a quick learner," Crew coach Wilfried Nancy said following the NYCFC game. "What I've seen so far during the practice ... every kind of practices, he's been good. I'm happy for him because he did a good game."

Columbus selected Ruvalcaba in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft with the 51st selection in the second round out of SMU.

Signing a Crew 2 contract on March 5, Ruvalcaba never made an appearance with the second team and practiced primary with the first team, but is still the seventh Columbus player to be signed to the Crew from the MLS NEXT Pro team.

The Crew kick off a road game against D.C. United at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
