Who do we want to replace them? I think it's always good to have someone with strong NFL ties because I think it really helps with recruiting.

What do you mean by "strong NFL ties"? Arizona State has strong NFL ties because they actually put a lot of people in the NFL.... I think if ASU can hold out for 1 more season Nick Saban is going to want to come back to college after he gets fired

I had a similar conversation last week, but the problem is Saban made $2.5 million a year at LSU and will probably want something like that wherever he ends up after Miami. ASU simply can't afford him, the ABOR would never allow it. They only pay Lute 900k a year and he's a Hall of Famer.

The ABOR needs to get with this century and understand you have to spend money to build a legacy. I am sick of these magical runs ASU has once a decade where they build a team and then the next wave of recruits are either felons or total wastes of space like Ryan Kealy.

Pete Carroll's salary is over 3 million bucks and guess what....? He's worth every penny.

Times like this I'm glad I never pay my alumni dues

I wish this was the case, because if ASU starts spending $2 million a season on head coaches then Arizona will inevitably follow suit. The problem is that unlike USC that puts 100k in high-priced seats and millions more on their couches every Saturday, ASU and Arizona have marginal attendance numbers and cannot justify expensive mandatory donations like elite programs do.

ABOR would never approve such a salary for an ASU/Arizona head coach unless the program starts generating huge revenues. That however requires sustained success which many would argue will only be achieved by getting a coach that demands that much in salary.
