The Crew are undefeated in MLS regular-season action, sitting at 3-0-3 going into their matchup against CF Montreal.
While Columbus has struggled finding goals during the opening stretch of the season with just eight goals, the defense has lifted the Crew in the victories and draws.
In six games, the Crew defense has recorded three shutouts and four goals allowed, which is third lowest in the league.
Without defender Rudy Camacho, who's been sideline every game with a thigh injury, Columbus has had players step up on the backline such as Cesar Ruvalcaba, alongside Steven Moreira and other defensive veterans.
"The first training with Cesar, we were like, ‘This kid has a lot of potential,'" Moreira said. "Even for Cheba (Yevhen Cheberko), Malte (Amundsen) or Sean (Zawadzki), I’m not surprised. Not having me or Rudy, everyone is good and ready to play and fit, so that’s good for the team."
Moreira missed two games due to a quad injury, and returned to action in Columbus' 2-1 victory over D.C. United on March 29.
