Players Unanimously In:

QB (2): Palmer; Stanton

* I am the only one keeping Matt Barkley---the reasons are: (1) I strongly believe he will be claimed off waivers---the QB cupboard is bare---who do we get to run our scout team? (2) If Palmer goes down and Stanton plays the way he has played the past two pre-seasons, I'd like to have Barkley as an option; (3) fear of the Ryan Lindley syndrome.

RB (4): David Johnson; Chris Johnson; Ellington; Taylor

* I am the only one keeping K. Williams because; (1) I believe he won't make it through waivers this time; (2) we've wound up needing him the past two years and he's been productive.

TE (3): Fells; Gresham; Niklas

* Rugby is keeping Ifeanyi Momah. If he has a big game tonight, he will make this a lot tougher for the coaches and the pundits. Of not, I know I will feel a little more comfortable about sneaking him through waivers.

WR (5): Fitzgerald; Floyd; John Brown; Jaron Brown; Nelson

* Urban, Somers, MJ and Rugby are all keeping Brittan Golden. I am keeping Chris Hubert because I am worried about John Brown and I think Hubert's deep threat capabilities give him the edge over Golden as a receiver. Golden clearly has an edge on STs---but I have Cariel Brooks taking over his gunner spot.

OL (8): Veldheer; Iupati; Shipley; Mathis; Humphries; Watford; Boehm; Toner

* Urban and Somers are keeping T John Wetzel; MJ has the Steve Keim making a waiver claim at T; Rugby has T Rob Crisp instead of Wetzel; and I am sticking with just 8 because I do not think any of the Cardinals backup o-linemen will be claimed off waivers and thus can easily be kept on the PS until needed.

NT (1): Peters

* Urban, Somers, MJ and I all have Xavier Williams making it; Rugby is waiving XW; I am the only one keeping Red Bryant. Every tie the Cardinals were getting run on last year, the coaches put in Red Bryant and he quickly calmed everything down. I think in this run heavy division---we need Big Red.

DE (5): Campbell; Rucker; Nkemdiche; Mauro; Gunter

* Urban, Somers and MJ are all keeping Ed Stinson; Rugby is waiving Stinson; I have Stinson going to the IR.

ILB (3): Minter; Bucannon; Clemons

* Urban, Somers, MJ and Rugby are all keeping Alani Fua; Rugby is also keeping Gabe Martin; I am waiving Fua because I think he will pass through waivers and can keep developing on the PS (I think he's a little banged up too) and I am the only one keeping Lamar Louis.

OLB (4): Golden; Jones; Okafor; Martin

* We are all unanimous at OLB.

CB (4): Peterson; Williams; Bethel; Brooks

* Urban is keeping Harlan Miller; MJ has Steve Keim adding a CB via waivers.

S (5): Mathieu; Jefferson; Branch; Swearinger; Christian

* We are all unanimous at S.

ST (3): Butler; Catanzaro; Canaday.

We are unanimous on 47 players---the others are:

QB Barkley--Mitch
RB K. Williams---Mitch
WR Golden---Urban, Somers, MJ, RM
WR Hubert---Mitch
T Wetzel---Urban, Somers
T Crisp---RM
DT X. Williams---Urban, Somers, MJ, Mitch
DT Bryant---Mitch
DE Stinson---Urban, Somers, MJ
ILB Fua---Urban, Somers, MJ, RM
ILB G. Martin---RM
ILB Louis---Mitch
CB H. Miller---Urban

Your thoughts? What is your 53?

That is what I think will happen

Personally I would not keep Cariel Brooks, and I would drop Stinson or Golden in favor of the best OT I could find, and I would keep Donald Butler over Fua

You know actually this wasn't a very hard cutdown afterall, I don't really feel like the cards will be losing anyone of much value.

Hopefully we will be able to keep wetzel and hubert for the practice squad, those are the only cuts I would like to see the cardinals keep that isn't on the 53 above.

Lots of work there Mitch wow.

I'm with you thinking its a major mistake cutting Red Bryant!!! Counting on Peters, who's yet to play a game for a Big Red IMO is a monumental mistake.

Not really, there is still Xavior Williams and Gunter, both of whom are much younger and have shown the ability to do the job

Really - we need to see the game tonight for a couple of these guys, but...Fua doesn't look very instinctive right now, I like Butler for insurance (cheaper than Weatherspoon) and Louis for ST. We rolled with 3 CBs last year, don't see why we would go with five this year unless they really like a pickup (and don't cut Brooks).

At least one person we like is going to be cut...

I agree with you on Red. BA wanted him re-signed for a reason.

They don't stop the run near as well as the former Aggie. If this team is trying to win a SB, his leadership & experience are far superior & needed

Love this thread. Great write up Mitch.

I will say this, I really, really like Kerwynn Williams, and Chris Hubert. Xiaver Williams is "my guy", loved him out of college, and must have picked him a dozen times or more in my mock drafts.

By far the hardest player I left out was Red Bryant. Campbell,Peters,Rucker,Gunter,Mauro,Nkimdiche is your six that should be playing game day, and if we keep a 7th, he will probably be inactive. So, do you sit Red Bryant ? Do you keep Ed Stintson who is ONLY a DE in a 3-4 ? Do you keep Xiaver Williams ? If Stinson goes on IR it will save him from being cut, and as strange as it sounds, may find himself back in the rotation by next season.

Tough choice, IMO. Our defensive line, just like A LOT of positions is stacked. There are players that could start or be the 1st backup on some NFL teams.

Whether it be Crisp who I thought played better than Wetzel in the games, or Wetzel himself, the ONLY reason I would keep either is if Watford is still hurt week 1. If Watford is healthy, then neither tackle should make the team over the many other and better options to keep on the 53.

Inside linebacker? It has me stumped. Its not like Gabe Martin is a world beater, and if Lamar Louis at 231lbs can play SILB, then he is going to get in the final 53, but that is something only the coaches would know at this point. Alani Fua can play either position at ILB so that makes him valuable. And how important is a $LB backup ? If it is important than Chris Clemons has a very good shot at making the roster, or does putting Matias Farley on the practice squad cover that need ?

Maybe:

-Bucannon
-Minter
-Fua
-Louis

PS - Farley

Again, it is a tough call. I know Louis stood out on special teams, but I do not remember him doing much at the LB position.

Regardless, this is a great write up by Mitch, and I think him for putting the time in.

Best nugget of knowledge ? There are 47 players agreed upon among 5 people, and every one of us talk about the amount of talent that is going to be cut. Thus the 47 that stick out are really good players. It shows that the core of this team is very strong.

It makes you forget that players like Chris Johnson, Jaron Brown, Earl Watford, Red Bryant, Ed Stinson, and Xiaver Williams are pretty damn good. Heck, Stinson, Bryant, and Williams could probably be the Browns starting D-Line.

Ridiculous.

In the end, not matter who the undecided six are, I doubt any of us will be complaining.
