On a serious note Adam why were you not able to be 100% correct. I mean if there is nothing subjective involved shouldn't you able to figure it out objectively to a 100% correctness.

If they published the formula, anyone could be 100-percent correct. But with so many factors in the equation, trying to figure out ahead of time exactly who qualifies, who cancels out who, what round of comp pick a player is worth, and what qualifies as a "significant point differential" is nearly impossible -- especially considering that the values increase each season.

You'd either have to have the secret formula in your possession or get extremely lucky to be able to project ahead of time that Takeo Spikes ($5.33 million per season) would be worth a third-round pick while Hugh Douglas ($5.4 million per season) would be worth a fourth; AND that Randy Thomas ($3.95 million per season) would be worth a fourth-round pick while John Thornton ($3.75 million per season) would be worth a fifth; AND that Tampa Bay would get a "net point differential" comp pick while Chicago wouldn't; AND that Don Davis' $685,600 contract would barely be enough to qualify for the equation; AND that Zach Wiegert would be disqualified from the equation due to a contractual issue that had never affected any other player in the history of comp picks. It's MUCH easier to go back afterward and see what happened, when you know the cutoff points for everything.
