I'm not saying you are LV, but a lot of people wrongly put a lot of emphasis on bowl results in comparing conferences.

I don't think you can tell anything from a bowl game because teams have such a long layoff between the end of the regular season and the bowl games.

You also don't know which teams are going to show up to play, which ones are showing up to party and which ones are showing up to go shoplifting.

Too many variables for the games to have any real significance.

How else can you compare if not head-to-head? Essentially bowl records indicate head-to-head matchups. It would be interesting to see a split on which conferences played whom during that time period.

Not trying to prove anything just thought it was an interesting stat.

Easy to say that Bowl games are unfair when the team or conference loses.

The Poll rankings are totally subjective and hardly ever take into account strength of conference, unless it is a lower level conference. Perceived conference strength never seems to change. Too bad. The bowls that pit conferences against each other is the only barometer that lends credibility to conference comparison.

Last night indicated the chasm between Ohio State and LSU, thus Big 11 and SEC. Hard to rationalize great conference perception when the top 2 teams from your conference get ass whooped. Not a coincidence.

BTW, the ACC sucks too. This is the year of the SEC and Pac 10. They went out and did it.

SEC was clearly the best conference this year. Pac-10 and Big 12 were next.

Then it was a pick-em, although if you base on bowl results, ACC would rank last among the BCS conferences.

You can compare conferences just by looking at the conference games. Using games that are played after a month or longer layoff as a comparison just doesn't cut it for me.

It was easy to see that Ohio State wasn't in the same class as LSU just by looking at who OSU played in their non conference matchups. The Big 10 also has the longest layoff by their top teams.

Texas had the same type cream puff schedule as OSU and really wasn't very good this year but they put a LOT of emphasis on winning the Holliday Bowl and it paid off.

Doesn't mean that the PAC 10 is weak because the Big XII #4beat the Pac 10 #2.

The Big 10 (11) has chosen the path that provides the long layoffs. They have 11 teams and won't take in a 12th which would require a conference championship game. They took in the 11th team, Penn State, for the revenue, but would not take a 12th. It is a double edged sword. They have long ago decided to plan the end of their season around Mich - Ohio State game in November. If the Big 10 doesn't want to come into the 21st Century, tough cookies for them. One of these years the rest of the football audience will stop falling for their plight.

Actually, Wally, the Big 11 thought they had their 12th team when they openly encouraged Notre Dame to join -- after the Irish initiated the back-channel overture.

Then, the Notre Dame Board of Trustees arrogantly and publicly shafted the conference and their own people by voting to refuse the invitation.

The Irish administration had wisely seen the need to finally join a conference, did all the hard background work, only to have the Trustees stupidly override logic. And Irish fans wonder why the University is so hated. Duh.

I'll always support my school. That doesn't include blind support of self-inflicted wounds, idiotic in nature.

I find it hard to understand why people get so emotional about which conference is better.

This "tear others down so our team looks better" phenomenon is an unexpected by-product created by today's BSC system. Since there are so few meaningful OOC games in the regular season, perception is almost more important than what actually happens on the field.

Ah yes. Didn't Michigan be Florida, which beat LSU, which beat OSU, which beat Michigan?

Ah, Mulli, jumping around the boards, dispensing little nuggets of cynicism again. I love it.

There are other fish in the pond. The Big 10 can find someone else if they want to.

Maybe since "The Big 12" moniker is already taken, they will never change their ways. Too sad.

Word is they are looking at Pitt now....My thoughts on that? Please take Pitt, now. For the love of god what an embarressment to BE Football. (although the BB team is good)

The Big East also plays a part in this. They allow ND to participate in every sport excpet football. That is ridiculous and completly a financial motive for ND. I wish the BE would nut-up and tell ND "all sports or no sports"

Pitt might be the perfect fit for the Big 11. Not exactly a powerhouse, but on a level with Northwestern, Indiana and Purdue. Already have a rivalry with Penn State.

The Big East has big problems. They lost their 3 big teams and had to go scouring for replacements. They aren't about to piss off Notre Dame. Maybe some day, when NBC Sports goes broke, Notre Dame will flip.
