I was confused by this quote from Bryan Colangelo on Suns.com. :“is that this, in conjunction with the Jahidi White transaction with Charlotte freed up a total, estimating the cap at $46 million, of $16.3 million of space that we can go out to the free agent market with”

On hoops hype.com the Suns payroll is 28 million, so if BC expects the cap at 46, doesn’t that mean we have 18 million? And I believe Vroman (who will make less than a million) does not count until he is actual ly signed, since he’s a second round pick.

The only thing I can think of is hoopshype is off on our payroll, any other ideas?

Also anyone hear about where the cap could be, that economist, rosenbaum, was predicting a couple months ago it would be 42.9, I’m guessing the big ratings during the playoffs are making guesses for the cap more optimistic.

if what BC says is true, the suns are at 29.7M, likely moving to 29.9M after vroman.

this means, when we get cap numbers july 14th, if its less than 44M, we can't offer the max to kobe (not that he'd accept anyways)

I have not seen any OFFICIAL announcements about where the cap is set. Has anyone?

BTW, Vroman does not count against the cap until he is signed. It is just another benefit of taking him in the second round. Also, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Suns could use ever dollar of the cap and still sign Vroman to a minimum contract.

One thought about the number is that it may be that BC is already budgeting a couple million for Dice.

If you don't have 12 players on your roster you need to pay a caphold for all open roster spots.
It is not much but it still counts against the cap. It's like 250k$ in our case.

That is "rounding error" for most projections.

The total available is important. At $15 million the Suns would be hard pressed to sign Kobe and Dice, but it is no problem at $17. $15 million is enough to get two guys starting at $6 million and one at $3, while at $17 the starting point of the contracts could be $7 million or even $8 million and $6 million.

Anybody care to speculate? I'm guessing it's around $43-44 million.

That's my thought too.

I still don't get how league revenues have supposedly declined, despite LeBron and Carmelo Anthony and higher TV ratings across the board. If David Stern says so, though, I don't think the numbers themselves are going to cross him. ;)

I'm guessing the Colangelos are planning based on the lowest number. This would make the exta $2 million or so for the #7 relevant.
