I don't like to waste money on bad movies, just like I don't waste money buying every DVD that comes out just so i can have it :)

Do I ever insult you about your hobbies or what you spend your money on? I don't think I do, so I don't understand why you and everyone else has to consistently do it to me. I know you're probably joking, but come on--when is it ever enough?

Well if it was just me doing the insulting, then that's one thing...but since you said everyone else...then maybe think about your hobby.

I dunno Michael...I know it's none of our business, but you always come on when the Wednesday releases are announced, and say what you're going to get, so you open yourself up to it.

It's your hobby, your life...but I just don't see the value of spending thousands of dollars collecting things that will just go down in value...and maybe movies you will never get a chance to watch...lol

So that's it...you post what you're buying, and I post little cracks, and make myself laugh...i am joking a little bit.

I mostly find it hard to believe that you, the supreme movie critic on the board, would like Constantine...the two top critics hated it, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 47% percent....not saying you're an idiot for liking it, but just surprised...

Anyways, I really can't talk when I haven't seen it...but I also am very much against wasting money on seeing movies that suck...it costs almost $20 a movie for two people and refreshments...that's too much.

Everybody does that.

What are you talking about, down in value? I'm not collecting for monetary reasons--it's not all about that. I collect movie posters too, but I'm not expecting to get a Miss Congeniality 2 poster because in 20 years it'll be worth 20 bucks... :D

So that's it...you post what you're buying, and I post little cracks, and make myself laugh...i am joking a little bit.

Again, I'm not the only one that posts.

That's a little harsh, don't you think, I haven't had any real serious run-ins with anyone, not even Stout, in quite some time.

Anyways, I really can't talk when I haven't seen it...but I also am very much against wasting money on seeing movies that suck...it costs almost $20 a movie for two people and refreshments...that's too much.

Believe it or not, I do like Ebert's reviews, but I don't always agree with them. Most people on this board would say that they don't even read critic's reviews for the very reason that they don't trust in them. I read them because it's interesting to read the points of view (which is the reason I'm sure you read them).

I can understand not wanting to "waste" your money, it gets pretty expensive. But I'm not sure why you trust critics so much. I posted a week ago that I had seen a lot of bits and pieces of the movie at work, and it looked good. Shoot, if I remember correctly, Ebert originally didn't give Usual Suspects a favorable review--but we all love the movie anyway.

If you see a trailer and like what you see, even if Ebert gives it half a star, why does that make it suck? True, it certainly could suck, but I've also seen movies that got perfect reviews that weren't very good, IMO. It happens both ways. But if you want to trust in reviews, more power to you, you're certainly not the first one to do that. But I like to trust my own eyes, and because I do this stuff for a living, I find it justified--the same goes for my DVD buying, which shouldn't be an issue, even though for some odd reason it is.

I play D&D, buy movies (not as many as Chap!), work on Computer networks for a living!

Wanna make fun of me?

What is the use?

His life style has nothing to do with you. This is a board about MOVIES!

I would assume that everyone here to some degree considers each other as a friend or friendly aquantence. So why bother with with snyd-comments?

Chap and I have known each other for a long time, so we're able to talk a little more openly that I would with other people I don't know as well...

And you play D&D? What a nerd...

this movie may be a bad movie, but u really have to appreciate a really bad movie. i like good "bad movies" alien vs. predator comes to mind. or jason vs. freddy. these were bad movies and the people who made these movies knew that they were going to be bad. ebert and roeper didn't even have to watch these movies to know that they were going to be bad, but the point is whether or not it is entertaining.

the only thing that would really make constantine horrible is if the movie were to take itself too seriously. i really doubt that it does (haven't watched it) but that would really make it horrible.

and i think people who get paid to review movies basically get free money.

Well, Constantine is certainly better than Alien vs. Predator! :D (Which, by the way, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be)

Saw it saturday. Awful movie. Doesnt explain much of the "world".

That and the fact that Keanu Reeves is even worse than usual.

WB Looks Forward to Constantine 2
Source: Mary
February 22, 2005

In the weekend box office report by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. reveals that they're ready to move forward with a sequel to Constantine, starring Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz:

Across town at Warners, executives were likewise upbeat about the debut of "Constantine." "Considering that this was an unknown quantity, we're obviously really pleased with the results and look forward to the sequel," president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said. "The exits were excellent, which leads us to conclude that the film will continue to do well," he noted. Co-produced with Village Roadshow, "Constantine" skewed slightly more male with 56% but was equally balanced in the age demographic with a 50-50 ratio of those older and younger than 25.

Constantine opened to a solid $34.6 million, according to estimates, for the four-day President's Day holiday weekend. It was the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film during any four-day holiday frame, and it was a company best for WB for the President's Day weekend.

After a smash start last week in Asia, the film also successfully launched into Europe, earning $3.8 million in Germany, $3.6 million in France, and $2.7 million in Spain. With strong holdovers in Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong, Constantine collected $15.5 million from 10 markets this weekend for an estimated total to date of $30.7 million internationally.

I LOVE "good" bad movies (I am a firm believer that once your taste for bologna and cheese cinema is gone you may as well just quit watching them altogether) but this was a BAD bad movie. Saying that Keanu is a bad actor is insulting to bad actors. This guy is horrible. They may as well have cast Casper Van Dien or Dean Cain or someone. His delivery had me laughing out loud at points.

Not helping him at all is the fact that every single actor around him was solid if not great. For God's sake, Keanu was outacted by Gavin Rossdale!!! He made Peter Stormare's standard scenery-chewing a welcome relief. Watching him act across from Keanu was like watching the two polar dynamics of acting at work.

I couldn't tell you what the story was or what was the deal w/ the demons or what they were trying to do. I recall something about most of the film's plotpoints being introduced in the last five minutes of the film. Poorly scripted, underdeveloped film that seemed to have a lot of potential. Oh well. Read the vastly superior graphic novels sometime.

Did give me my Rachel Weisz fix, though. Yum!

Disagree with you there about the story--it was pretty apparent--there was a conflict between God and the devil, and they can't directly influence events--but their "henchmen" can, and that's who Keanu roots out and destroys.

I saw it. The movie was pretty tight. Good story and special effects. I love movies that are original and outside of the box. I know this was based on a comic book or something, but it was really cool how the devil came in at the end. Didn't like the fact that Gabriel was played by a woman. Didn't seem right.

I was looking for more symbolism, but overall it was a good movie.

Well, technically, they cast Tilda Swinton to make Gabriel be androgenous--and they fairly succeeded unless you are familiar with Swinton, who is an amazing actress in her own right.

We watched it. Certainly not the worst movie we have rented. Question- Does Keanu Reeves smoke in real life? Can't imagine anyone smoking after making that movie. Creepy.
