Converting .avi into a DVD format

Ok, I've got my hands on a movie that is in three seperate .avi files. I would like to convert them into a single DVD file so that I may copy them onto a DVD for viewing on a DVD player.

Who knows how this is done?

the best way I know of is to convert them into MPG format, they will then play on most DVD players, actually they have played on everyone that I have seen so far... I used them for showing videos of my grand children to her mother and she has an older DVD player...

I think it says that it makes VCD that will play on any DVD that has VCD capabilities but mine have worked on some that don't say they are VCD capable...

Yeah, you have to either convert them to mpeg2 or have burning software that automatically transcodes the avi's into mpeg2 while creating the dvd.

Also try TREX which converts avi's to Mpeg2's and others.

Now, will this handle the audio conversion automatically? Or, is the audio seperate?

The Audio is handled Automatically...

The free ware program that I posted seems to convert the audio and video just fine... I have heard of there being delays (sync problems) but the only references to delays are made when someone is decoding an original DVD and then placing it on their hard drive and converting it back for VCD... If you are truly using it to convert AVI's or WMF and the like, you should have no problems... All of the ones I have made work fine...

Hmmmm....... 3 avi files. Sounds to me like you downloaded ROTK.

I wouldn't convert them to VCD as the resolution is low and you would need lots of more than 1 CD for good quality.

DVDs are encoded in MPEG2. The best MPEG2 encoder is Cinema Craft Encoder, which is expensive to acquire legally and has a high learning curve. The simplest solution, like Billythekid said, would be to find a burning program that will do the transcoding for you.
