Who is this magical QB which will be getting the ball to Davis after Palmer retires is my question... nobody has given his name yet :)

Who is QB in 2018?

a) Could be Palmer himself
b) Could be someone on another NFL roster now
c) Could be someone we draft this year

I don't think there is a clear cut answer right now. I am all for drafting a QBOF but we better be darn sure of it.

To put it into perspective...there are 10-15 QB's drafted every year and maybe 1 that becomes a quality NFL starter (on average). The bust % is way too high and those guys don't play other positions or special teams.

i think speed is important. The 40 goes with that.

people forget -- early in Fitz's career there were concerns about him "not getting separation" -- his catches all seemed to be contested where his outstanding hands and jumping ability won the day

Fitz worked like a madman to perfect his craft in route running and fundamentals and the separation on routes came with that

so: if Corey Davis runs a 4.6 40 -- the draft question is "Will he dedicate himself to the craft?" in order to succeed in the NFL.

Doesnt mean 4.3 goys dont have to do that -- but it gives them a little more margin for error (all other things being equal) -- bigger cushions by DBs, etc.

That as much as anything explains why certain players excel while other wash out. Its why everyone is looking for players "who love the game"
Former 49er fan here.:oops:If my memory serves me right Jerry Rice didn't run the fastest 40 and he turned out okay

D Hokhanson poses some interesting questions and inadvertently may have raised an interesting point:

I've been spending the past few weeks getting familiar with various prospects, and what sticks out most is that there seem to be at least 25 players that belong in my top 13.

This is going to wreak havoc with everyones' mocks due to the multiplicity of quality options that figure to be available to each team.

He's very good.

But

I just hate the idea of drafting a WR that high when we have other dire needs such as QB, ILB, & CB.

This is where I stand really good prospect but who cares who's playing WR if Drew Stanton is overthrowing them by 10 yards.

It's a position that is 100% reliable on another position succeeding

I feel we can get a chain moving wide receiver later in the draft. I would prefer we drafted O.J.Howard or one of the defensive studs in the first round. O.J. would also be a great chain mover plus we get the added benefit of another blocker on the line.

And that is the point. You almost have to go full Redskin mode and draft two because there really is no "I am sure" and none of these proceeding drafts are going to be any better than this year and the great game of college football now where all QBs are projects. The first answer is one a franchise drafts as the one which puts a team in the best position for prolonged success. You draft this year and next year and do not wait for the freaking third round for even more 'what if'... we are at code red right now at the position if one has any intention of being a Cardinal fan in the near future in my opinion

Keep in mind that Davis was easily the primary weapon at Westerm Michigan. Williams was one of many at Clemson. I'll still take Williams as the safest pick.

I like Williams and think he is the surest receiver in this draft to become a true #1 receiver, but I really buy the argument that Howard is a freak player that will impact the run game and the pass game.

Maybe shoot for:
1) Howard
2) Kupp

I would still like to trade down and draft Mahomes...

I agree, and would prefer OJ Howard over either WR at 13.

With the draft less than 2 weeks away, Corey Davis remains my number one target for the Cardinals first round pick. Yes he still hasn't been able to run for teams. However all you need to do is watch a little tape on the kid to see that his football speed isn't an issue.

In fact I hope that he doesn't run for teams before the draft as it make is more likely that he drops to the Cardinals at the #12 overall pick.

Cardinals were one of 5 NFL teams to host a private visit with WR Corey Davis:

An ankle on a WR who expects to be ready for TC? So, no OTAs or anything in between? That's troubling. Not saying he wouldn't be great down the line, but that's a tough pill to swallow. I've really, REALLY had enough of 1st round picks with absolutely no impact their first seasons.

Maybe now the way they treat any injury is the right thing to do and I understand but for someone who has watched football for close to 40 years, this instant 'I got a boo boo' because I get 'boo boos' easily and 'cannot play because of a boo boo' is getting old in the modern NFL lol

Who has the best hands in this draft WR wise? Forget about speed and route running, if you can't catch its all for nothing. Hands are what separate Fitzgerald from everyone else, hands and body control.

I'd say Fitz runs pretty damn good routes as well. Williams hasn't been that great at that.

I don't think it's a concern, he said he's been running some routes & I'm betting he's not gonna be just standing on the sidelines for all of OTAs. He said he expects to be 100% in 2 weeks. The main thing is learning the playbook & being full go by TC. The guy has outstanding abilities IMO.

In the last 15-20 years the MAC has turned out some serious NFL studs & they have to be high on the list as far as conferences doing it & I fully expect Davis will be added to that list!!!

He was a 'one trick pony', but he turned out okay. This would be a far better choice than one of the Qb's at this spot in the draft.
It's like comparing Julio Jones to Christian Ponder
.

That is a great analogy!

I finally started watching videos of this guy, and he looks so damn much like TO did coming out of college. And he is a GREAT GUY to boot that would fit really, really well here. I would absolutely love to have him come in and be the heir apparent to Fitz. That said, I don't think he is there at 13.

Curious to see how far Davis falls because of the ankle. Might go early 2nd. I'd love to take Mike Williams, but if not, there are some developmental possession receivers who can be had during Day 3
