Is it just me or does the fresh corn this year seem really, really good?

Most excellent thus far! Very sweet and very juicy!!! We had some this past Friday night and it turned into a squirting contest at the table! Every bite produced a stream of water popping from the kernels!! :D

where are you buying this so called tasty corn on the cob?!

i've given up on trying it out here because every bite i've had has been terrible ...... i'm jonesing for some though, especially since I had a successful run on upstate NY chicken bbq over fathers day

add that with good corn on the cob and then i'm only short of salt potatoes for a great meal

I got some at Albertson's and was quite happy. (That says a lot coming from a Jersey farmer's granddaughter.)

This ran last year in NY Magazine. I just started seeing the first ears at greenmarket here this week. August and Sept are corn time in NYC. And I apologize for the snotty sound of this, but corn tastes better when you hand your money to the guy who grew it. Alexander Paffenroth, you grow some mean ass corn. Just waiting for those sacks to start showing up at YOUR stand.

Enjoy the recipe:

I don't know .... that recipe only sounds acceptable ... the non-use of mayonnaise is a travesty...................

Actually, I think it sounds like a pretty tasty adaptation

And I agree on both counts - August & September corn is where it's at .... the question right now though is the corn knee high yet?

growing up I knew no other way of buying corn on the cob except direct from the source so I'll add some bias points to that comment as well

so I was bouncing between mesa and fountain hills today and noticed a roadside sweet corn stand

hearing some good words on here i decided to pick up a half dozen to go with the lunch I was making

on the way back home I grabbed another dozen

really good and I was able to see the corn fields behind the stand

on gilbert road just north of the 202

I love the mayonnaise flavor it esquites. I prefer it slathered on ON the cob corn so the chili powder and cotija cheese sticks. But in a bowl, its a heavy gloopy addition that weighs the dish down. Besides, the butter adds the needed fat, and the infused flavor of the epazote takes it to a-whole-nother level...

heh .... i guess it comes with the job, but it seems like it would get tiring that everyone is a critic ... especially anonymous article commentators

on a side note, do you ever look at trip adviser, chow hound, yelp, etc and look up reviews of your spot?

This thread reminds me of when I was a kid and went back to see my dad in WI.. They had so much left over corn on the cob they threw a damn party/festival type of thing every year that you could eat corn.. It was a big mound of corn there.. There was bow and arrow contests and like water dunking .. those type of things.. And these things were all across the state.. Wish I could remember what they were called.. O or someone will prolly remember since he lived in MI, they may have done it there too.. But my family lives out on the farms and farm areas not the cities in WI..
