Paul Coro tweeted a few minutes ago that Gerald Green has yet to check into the game…

He says he hasn't "heard" if it is because of injury, discipline, or trade.

I initially chalked it up to pure speculation, but when some of the comments on the tweet challenge Coro's reasoning, he responded basically with Green SHOULD be playing, and the fact that he has not is a TELLING sign…

Let the speculation BEGIN

I've already started.

Coro is really hammering this point home now..

Just pointed out Green has the "Shavlik" seat meaning he knows he isn't playing

Also, this would be the first game Green did not play in his entire suns career spanning 2+ seasons

The Suns clearly need offense tonight, and Green is not an option

I think what he is trying to say without "breaking news" is there will be news about Gerald Green soon

interesting, Horneck said he did not know Green wouldn't be playing, and it was just match-ups…

Could be just wants Green fresh for tomorrow?

It makes no sense when the Suns needed Green's offense tonight to assure a win. They could have played Green 10-12 minutes and he would still be fresh. The Suns are not in a position to rest players.

Its not like Hornacek to worry about a future game when the current one is still in doubt. It might the fact that Chicago 'matched' our small ball - their 4 guards, none of whom are particularly big, played 121 minutes while our 3 played 97. Putting Green might have instigated them going bigger though they'd have probably countered with Snell or McDurmott which wouldn't been fearsome. I guess they could have used Mirotic who they were content to let sit more than usual as things were.

We didn't need his lack of defense... which he would have certainly brought, while his offense is a questionmark.

I'd be happy if this became the norm until we traded him.

Yea I'm not sure people realize how bad he is defensively. Yes he has flashy dunks and gets on a roll sometimes shooting 3s but if you look past the sportscenter highlight plays, he is really a liability.

Props to Hornacek for benching him regardless of whether he's getting traded or not.

Certainly defense is not what gets Green on the court. However, there were a few moments late in the 4th quarter when the Suns lead melted away and no one could hit an outside shot. This is when I missed Green's ability to shoot from outside. The Suns do need a consistent outside shooter.

Trading Green would solve a lot of the Suns over crowed back court problems and give younger guards/forwards a chance to play. Unless Green can be included in a bigger trade, I think the Suns might shop him for a first round pick. The Suns do not need any players coming back unless they can make an impact.

Yeah, for sure defense is not what gets him on the court, and on occasion he can single-handedly put a run on a team, but with his bad D, combined with his extreme ball hoggery and inconsistency, he would have been as likely to come into the game, waste possessions on terrible shots, not get back on D and the close game rapidly turns into a deficit. I've seen way too many individual games over sub 30% shooting and the worst +,- on the team for me to trust him.

I agree that we probably can fill whatever Green provides using guys from our roster.

Hornacek was amused by speculation over Green's DNP & reiterated it was game-related for how they were defending Butler well

Each day is a new beginning.

I am curious if any of us think that it is an effective way to build a strong team in the NBA while the other teams are building chemistry for the stretch run and post-season.

I guess the other point of view would be that the Suns roster is so incomplete that Jeff is doing the best he can of eeking wins with it . . . at least before the stretch run.

Hanging on until we throw in the towel.

I think you're asking about handing the keys to a kid that's still in diapers. Blanks and company put us back into our infancy and we are just now learning to walk. I think you have two choices here, patience or frustration. Choose wisely grasshopper.

It's funny that Hornacek realized we guarded Butler well without playing Green so then he puts in Green against an even better player in Klay Thompson.
